ESPN Page 2 ( Link to Overpaid NBA Players ) If someone can refresh my mind on how we were able to pull it off? I mean pay only 4.49 Million compared to Nets paying 14+ WOW " 3. Dikembe Mutombo, Houston Rockets ($18,760,000) We don't like to knock Dikembe, but still. The Rockets only pay him $4.49 million, but he's also banking $14.27 million from the Nets. Meanwhile, the old man plays only 13 minutes a night, averaging four points and four rebounds a game. Not a bad deal for Houston, but that's not the point. "
We got him for Pike, AGriffin, and Wilks from Chicago, who got him in the Crawford deal from the Knicks, who signed him after NJ bought out his contract.
wow thats crazy to be getting paid that much money by the nets when you arent even on their team anymore. but at 4.5 million he is a good backup C he would have been a real bargain if he was younger but he has done a good job this year in his role so I cant complain
Deke is a savvy businessman hehehe.. what a lucky guy.. and we lucked out by getting him. I think he has definately helped with Yao's shotblocking as of late. J
It was at least 5 years at around $2.5mill per. I THINK that he is off the books now?? (maybe I should've looked that up before making wild statements off the top of my head...)
I think that this is Maloney's last year of getting paid for nothing (which, ironically, is exactly what he did as a player).
He's donated at least $8 million of his own money into building a hospital in Zaire, so it's all cool to me.
he's donated a lot more than that to Zaire, the congo and other places. Considering what he does with his money, i have no objections to him getting overpaid.
Wow. What a great pickup. He doesn't cost us much, yet he makes a ton of money. And he has really contributed a huge amount to this team. -- droxford
I don't know that he's actually being paid that much this year. We're paying him the 4.5 million from the MLE contract he got from the Knicks after being bought out by the Nets. Their cap hit represents (but isn't exactly equal to) what would have been the final year of his max deal ($14.3), but that doesn't mean he's being paid that much by the Nets this year. The Nets bought him out for 30 million when he was due 2 years and a total of 37 million. I'm not certain about the arrangments, but often times, buyouts are not lump sums, but spread out over several years (ex. Shawn Kemp and Portland). Evan
I guess Deke has not only helped Yao on his blocking skill, but his shooting as well. This year I feel Yao's release point is higher than before, thus getting blocked less, maybe that has something to do with Motumbo blocking him in practice so he had to adjust?
I wouldn't doubt that at all. If only we can find a fast strong PF that can front him in practice and push him around. I'm sure he could benefit from that.
Good Backup? Would have been a real bargain? Can't Complain? Hell, he's the best backup center in the league by far and better than most starting centers in the league today.
