I switched to TimeWarner digital phone service back on July 8 and have been pretty happy with it, HOWEVER I just discovered that it does not support 3-way calling. I feel kind of like a fool because I should have checked the details but I looked at the features and MOST of them seemed to be there. I listened to the sales rep talk about it being service just like BellSouth. ... only no 3-way calling. I use 3-way calling weekly for business and personal use, but I haven't had occasion to use it since the switchover until today (one week of vacation and the next week of Vacation Bible School). I used 3-way calling to keep my widowed mother in touch with family members and old friends around town, state, and country. Now that's over unless I use my cell phone and eat up those minutes. Be forewarned! RANT OVER.
No I have had cable internet for about six years, so I just added digital phone service-- unlimited local and LD for $43.95 and loads of calling features except 3-way calling. I am under no contract, so I could change providers again. I'm going to wait and see how inconvenient I find it to be but I am disappointed that I was not vigilant enough to notice the omission from their list of "features." Of course, I am also disappointed that they "misled" me; I'm quite sure that I asked someone about it before and even during installation. We spent about 20 extra minutes making sure the Call Waiting feature worked properly. Even the CSR guy on the phone tonight had to look it up on the website and call two managers to know the answer to the question "Does your digital phone service support 3-way calling?" I sent them an inquiry registering my complaint and asking about such feature in the near future.... all the while veiling a threat to swtich back to BS.
My TW phone went out Monday. I was told it would take until Saturday before they could come out to fix it. (yea, great customer service) After about 4-5 calls trying to figure out something, because my Internet also wasn't working!!! ...one guy finally said, "oh, you don't have dial tone? We'll send somebody quicker." I've had RoadRunner for about 5-6 years and I do get occasional outtages. So if you can put up with your phone being out occasionally, then maybe it'll work for you too.
A friend of mine had his service go out last Thursday. They finally came to fix it yesterday. They said that the storms have cause a lot of problems with the modems and had to replace them, even though my friends internet service was uninterrupted.
I just consolidated phone, internet, TV and security system with Time Warner. I have the $99/month deal for 6 months on the phone, net and TV. And if you have all three of those, security monitoring is $10/month, which is literally 1/3 of what I was paying Brink's. No-brainer. One bill.
Most digital phone services don't technically support 911 - they have a 3rd party take the call and then relay the info you give them to the "real" 911 folks. It's one of the things I hate about digital phone. That and most alarm systems don't readily work with them. Oh, and then there's always the "if your cable service or electricity is out, so is your phone" issue. Yeah, I know - when does your cable ever go out?
What is it after 6 months? I know you can get Vonage for digital phone service for $25 (unlimited ld) or $15 (for something like 500 ld minutes). I get cable for about $50/month. Internet service is $35/month for me but can be had for about $25/month if I go sign another contract with SBC.
I just got off the phone with Vonage. I'm thinking about switching over to them. They say it will take about 20 days to port the number. I get 3-way calling and I can add a second line (TW said they couldn't do that). I sent TW an email last week inquiring about the coming availablity of 3-way calling; they have not responded. Any second/third thoughts about Vonage out there?
I just saw an article about an RCA cell phone docking station that allows inbound/outbound cell phone and landline calls combined into one system in your house. When dialing out, you can chose to dial using your cell or your house phone. Inbound calls ring throughout the house for either cell or land. Basically, I can use my cell phone just like a land line while at home. If this really works, I'm thinking of switching to basic Vonage or even basic SWB service to cut my monthly land line bill. If my cell offers free nights and weekends, I don't need unlimited home phone service too. If it works really well, after a while I may dump my land line altogether and just use cell service. So yes, how is Vonage? And anybody ever use one of the cell phone docking stations before? http://www.cellphonemall.net/wireless/store/accessorydetail.asp?id=43542 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...08025-2775926?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846
