I'm not too "up-to-date" on the newest or best features on digital cameras these days.

What kind of digital camera would you have?
    What would you recommend?
What's the best on the market?

I have a very middle of the road camera in the Sony DSC P-71. It's takes great shots, easy to use, loads of features, and makes great printable photos from my PC. The best thing about it was the price. it was listed at Best Buy at $349, but I got a discount because they were out of the one I really wanted, so it only cost me $319. I've been very happy with the choice.

It really depends on what you want. Do you want small? Do you want fancy?

I've got a Cannon PowerShot S200 Digital Elph and I love it! It's a very small, 2 MP camera with a stainless steel case. I wanted a small camera so I could take it on cycling trips. The only limitation that it has (for my uses) is the 2X zoom. But what do you expect in such case?

Olympus just came out with a (I think) 3 MP camera that's weather resitant and it looks pretty small.

I have a digital camera story:

A couple years ago I bought an HP digital camera for $600 for my dads birthday. I got an extended warranty on the camera. My dad just didnt enjoy the art of digital photography so he sent the camera back to me. About a year later the camera broke. I took it into bestbuy and the guy said that they dont make that particular brand of camera anymore, so I could pick out any $600 camera. Of course, digital cameras were just coming out when I bought this HP one, so even bad cameras were extremely expensive. Now, the some awesome cameras are around $600.

So I traded my broken and old HP camera for a brand new Canon G2 Powershot.

    I love warranties:)

look for something with at least 2 megapixels, maybe some type of removable media (compact flash, secure digital) and getting more than 3-4X zoom isn't all that.... I have a 7x digital zoom and you almost need a tripod to get a good steady image at 7x.

I have a Canon PowerShot A40 - it's 2 Megapixels, has a compact flash card, takes 10 sec hi res and 30 sec low res movies with sound and has a manual mode (like a manual 35mm camera!) I've been pretty happy with it, plus it has a panaramic mode, where it allows you to take multiple images then with software provided, stitches the images together for a panaramic shot...

see below (from the Smeg World Tour game)

if all images come out good, you can get a decent pic... but i got a blurry one in there... :(

I have a Sony digital camera, and I wouldn't buy any other. The reason I like it so much is because it's so freakin' easy to use. I have a DSC-P31. This weekend, I got to play around with one of those NICE CD Mavicas. I was VERY VERY VERY impressed. The only thing I didn't like about it was the size. It takes great pictures and is so simple to use.
