My wife and I just had our first baby and we are shopping for camcorders. We really don't know anything about them and we were looking for some advice on which brands we should go after or even a specific model. We are only going to be filming general family time so nothing too fancy. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Do you want to shoot on dv tape or hard disc drive?
Do you have an HDTV? If so, you may want a camera capable of shooting in HD.

ya these days you are going to see a loot of hard drive based ones.

if you plan to do your own editing in advanced software like adobe premiere etc then DV is the better choice.

since you want simplicity, i would go with a hard drive based.

how many hours do you want to shoot at a time?

how much money do you want to spent?

Honestly, you're better off getting a high-dollar point and shoot that ALSO does videos. It's fast, portable, and easy to use. It doesn't have to be HD. It's for memories, not academy awards.
