Can someone please tell me if there is a difference between a conscription and a draft? There has been a word or two said about Australia having a conscription- but I personally don't think it will happen because it would have to go through Parliament first, and I'm 19 and not prepared to go off to war. But is there a difference between a conscription and a draft?? Thanks.
A draft is basically a lottery in which you are "conscribed". Just because there is a draft, doesn't mean you will have to serve. Your number may not be called. Once you are "conscripted" you are compelled to serve.
