I know it's just been one game but did any of you guys notice any difference in offensive and defensive philosophies last night? The offens was differnt for obvious reasons. There were more picks in one offensive set than Rudy ran in one game last year. As far as defensively, what I noticed and like very much was if there was any penetration, eveyone abandoned their man to help out defensively. There was none of that "I guard my man, you guard your man" mentality. I liked the hussle on the rebounding front. I noticed alot of active hands also when the ball went down in the paint. Jackson, Mobley, Francis, etc...were all trying to create turnovers. I know the score didn't show it but once this team buys into Van Gundy's system, they will be very good defensively.

Are you sure you were watching the Rockets game or the Mavs game.

Trust me, I was watching the Rockets. I don't think Van Gundy cares about winning or losing preseason games more than he cares about impleminting his philosophy.Besides, when did the Mavs start playing defense?:D

you know whats so important? Is they are not out there running individual set plays. The Rockets under Rudy had individual set plays where it was like one posession would be a Mo Play or a Yao play or a Stevie play and that kind of style killed this team in the team assists dept. I know theses first two games the team has not registered a lot of assists under Va Gundy but there definitely is more of a natural flow on the offensive end that gives the players a variety of options on each possession. and i've also noticed that the offensive possession is started much closer in, instead of way out up high, beyond of the arc, like it was under the previous coaching staff.

randerson153, some only see winning or losing. Don't let them bother you...

Thanks for the recap. Yeah, it seems like JVG is just weeding out the role players. It's going to be interesting when the starters start getting more time.
