fat burners are not good man.

it puts increased workload on the heart and the heart cells go into hypertropy leading to cardiac output problems.

protein is fine as long as you don't go overboard. drink water to clean out your kidneys.

you gotta use the proper supplements too... muscle milk is a good protein source if you're tryin to build mass, but its pretty fatty, something like 30g fat per serving, so keep that in mind. there are other more lean supplements out there.

btw, has anyone tried casein protein?

Muscle Milk is a protein blend of whey and casein proteins - in what Cytosport calls their EVOPRO formula - "evolution based protein".

sounds like a diet issue. cardio is essential but your gonna have to fix what you eat to lose that extra fat.

Diet supplement will clean all the water weight out and maintain muscle mass while decreasing calories. People are just scared off by em and I dont blame them. Try Animal Cuts or Hydroxycut Hardcore. At first you will have the fast heart rate thing, maybe trouble sleeping. But those problems eventually turn into extra energy in the long run.

It's curious that you guys mention this product. Two weeks ago, I got a fitness assessment by a certified personal trainer and they recommended Muscle Milk as a good supplement for building muscle mass.

regular muscle milk has about 18g of fat per serving, 9g of that is saturated. pretty fatty stuff. so you better be working out if you're taking it, otherwise you'll gain body fat and not muscle. its also extremely high in calories, especially with milk instead of water.

your body type should play a lot into what protein supps you take.

if you're on the heavier side and don't need to gain much weight, go with muscle milk light.. half the calories, and a solid amount of protein.

if you're a stick, go with regular muscle milk...

most CPTs will tell you that muscle milk is the gospel of all protein supps because thats all they take..

Thanks for the scoop. My goal (don't laugh) is to lose about 10 lbs. of fat and gain about 30 - 40 lbs of muscle.

If I go full-swing into my workout program, I would be weightlifting Mon. Wed, and Fri. and ~1hr. on treadmill on Tues. and Thur.

    ...

I say if because I've recently lost mental momentum on my workout plans and I'm trying to get my head back on straight.

I'm under a lot of stress.

It's in your genes. Some of us are programmed to have that little fat on our stomachs and nothing can change that. Building muscle does not equal burning fat. No matter how much you build up your abs that fat will not go away. The best you can do is make it less noticeable.

Its not impossible. I'm somewhat of a "hard gainer" myself. Over a span of 1.5 years, I shed 20 lbs of fat and added 15 lbs of muscle. Now at 164 lbs.

Just remember it takes a long time, even if you don't see results right away, to keep at it.

For cardio, I might suggest HIIT workout. It would save you half the time on your cardio workout days, and keeps things more efficient.

Also stress leading to cortisol is a key contributor to fat accumulation. You might need to work on some relaxation techniques. The gym is a good place to get your frustrations out on the weights, but you shouldn't have to take home mental baggage on the way home
