did you vote for bush? and if so would you still vote him if you had a chance to vote again? because i'm not verry pleased that Bush is the leader of the USA. (in holland there was a extreem right politician who would get alot of votes (i was verry against him) but he got killed a few weeks before the election his name was Pim Fortuijn.)i coudn't understand anybdy would vote for Fortuijn, and i not like bush.so i want to know your opinion, and if you voted him could you tell me Why?
This is typical euro drivel at its finest. The media in Europe has had such a smear campaign against Bush from the start that every European I have been around has a predisposed hatred for the guy. From what I know about Fortuijn and similarly Jorg Haider in Austria, these guys are MUCH more right wing, anti-immigrant, borderline anti-semitic than George Bush is by a long shot. I wouldn't call Bush an "extreme right" politician. Pat Buchanan, maybe. To lump Bush into the same category as Fortuijn, Haider and Le Pen is not accurate. Arno - Please explain why you are not pleased with President Bush.
Yeah, Europeans do hate Bush. So when you said typical Euro drivel and media smear campaign, are you saying that they are all dumb and just repeat propoganda? That happens here too, and in Bush's favor and against it. Does that make the things that americans say drivel as well? I don't think that people are against Bush in Europe because of a non existent smear campaign, they just don't like the guy and disagree with his politics. Smear campaign, jeez, the BBC is probably the most unbiased news source in the world.
I wouldn't hold anybody else's sexual orientation against them, but for me, I've got to vote bush every time. So yes, once again, just last night even, I voted bush, and I hope to ... oh wait, ... reading the other posts makes me think this might be a political thread. sheez.
Yes it does. Vote in 2004. It will be the most important vote of my life. I'll be 28 and I think I'll be more informed about things. Used to vote straight democrat, I'm starting to revonsider that thought process.
No I am not saying all Europeans are dumb. I am saying they do not have an open mind on the topic of George Bush. As I stated earlier, I believe they have a predisposed bias against the guy that the press seems to promote. I am basing my opinions on the Europeans I have come in contact with on this topic, who are French, German and Norweigan. I also read German newspapers on a fairly regular basis, where the Bush-bashing is particularly harsh. I would not consider the BBC to be the authoritative source of information for all of Europe. Perhaps for Great Britain. Oski, I am curious to know why you think the BBC is the most unbiased news source in the world. Do you believe most Europeans get their news from this source? I do not believe this to be true at all. My experience living and working in Europe has been that most get their news from newspapers/tv specific to their own countries/cities.
I am an economist and I believe that lower taxes mean a better economy. Clinton took credit for the economy that Reagan produced and now Bush is getting blasted for the economy that Clinton produced. The economy is like an oil tanker, you start to turn the wheel now and it takes about 7-10 years to see results. Whenever I go to work, I work three days for the government and two days for me. That is seriously insane. Only because our country pays its employees so well, that they can make enough to live comfortably on two days of work, are there not riots all over the place. If you add up all your taxes, including state, you will want to throw up. It isn't that I am a big bush fan, or even a big republican. I am actually a libertarian. But I am always going to vote for the person who wants to lower my taxes - period. However Bush does strike me as a bit of a mincer sometimes, but he appears to have impeccable character and character is more of a requirement for a leader than witty banter. I would definitely vote for Bush again simply because I trust him. Some of those guys in Congress, republicans and dems, seriously frighten me.
As an Eastern European, all I can say is thank God for that.....we (my family) hold both Bush's in high regard.
Well, you have more experience than me, I was just basing this on what I see from our national media, CNN, and Fox News compared to BBC news I see on cable. Here's the point I was trying to make, when you watch the news, more often than not, you see a lot of the opinion of the reporters coming through when talking about our president and other elected officials. When I watch the BBC, it's always straight forward facts. There's no spin, no remarks, no bull crap. When I'm looking for the facts, I rely on BBC and the AP wire service for world news. I just assumed that people in the UK and europe who may have cable or sattelite probably watched it as well. My bad. My only foreign experience has been Australia, and I don't even remember what they watched for news besided local stuff.
If I could afford to have a house in two different countries and could split my time between them, I would have my second home in the Netherlands. I've never met warmer and more open-minded people. I've never voted for a Bush.
