Hawaiians consume 40% of all Spam.

There is no such thing as the quicksand that exists in Hollywood movies. The closest thing, sand which is suspended in water, is much denser than water alone and therefore a human would float easily.

Sugata-Zukuri, a Japanese sashimi dish, is presented so fresh you can actually get some of it down the hatch before it dies.

Blood and body fluids start to boil above 63,000 feet.

The average 10 gallon hat only holds about 3 and a half quarts of water.

Harris County, TX has had the most tornados since record keeping began.

I'll add others as I think of them.

Harris County also was home to the biggest jail in North America - 701 N. San Jacinto. I don't know if this is still true, but it was upon completion of the building/hellhole.

The alligator gar (a fish) can also breathe air.

"Gumbo" is derived from "gombo", an African word for okra.

I had a whole little book about Did You Know's, but I can't find it. But I have another book very similiar. Here are some:

    1. Most roses are not red. Until the 19th century, roses were either pink or white. In 1832, a Chinese rose was crossed with a red flower to give the 1st red rose.

    2. Did you know a pound of bread is heavier than a pound of gold? Bread is measured 16oz to a pound, while gold is measured 14oz to a pound.

3.Did you know the hungriest animal is a shrew? If it goes without eating for a few hours, it will starve.

BTW, if Dan Nevins, the author of this book is reading, I got all this information from Science Secrets by Dan Nevins.
