If we do the mathematics, the Rockets to secure 40 wins for the season will need to go 28-18. That's about .600 ball for the rest of the season. Keep in mind that we still have to play the Pistons once more, Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix three more times. This team has instances where they really try hard, but they also have mental lapses. Especially in the 4th quarter in which most of those games, we had a decent lead in some point.

We sure to have a lot of players on that injured list, but a few of them just need to suck it up and go out in play. Stromile Swift has probably been the most disappoting player so far this season(save the last few he played). But now somebody pops him in the eye and he's out for two weeks?? I know being popped in the eye hurts and you can actually go temporaily blind, but once you take some medicine and put a warm (not hot) wash cloth over it, its back to itself in two days. Derek Anderson has been out with a modest calf injury which is definitely more serious, but he hasn't made any progress on that since he was out Thanksgiving?? Will Barry also suit up this season??

I'm thinking their subtly tanking right now but not completely. I'm sure T-Mac & Yao have enough fight in them to want to come back and at least make this a respectable season. I wouldn't think they just want to sit out the rest of the season even if we don't make the playoffs. The rest of this month and into Groundhog Day will tell the tale. If we're still banged up and losing at the rate we are then, then let them two players play like 20 mintues a game and try to develop the younger players later in this NBA season.

As stated above, we need to play .600 ball(28-18) to get to 40 wins. We would need to go (39-7) to get where we were last year. One good think is the West is weaker and the #8 seed is straddling .500.

stro has an eye infection. eye infections can last up to 4 weeks. even with constant treatment, depending on how severe and what type of infection. plus it could most likely be contagious. and i doubt we will win enough games to make 8th spot. at best, we miss playoffs by like 2 games. i say we let tracy sit it out the rest of the season. have him checked out thoroughly and just make sure we have him back healthy for next season. plus theres still some dead weight we have to drop moochie and possibly others or make some good trades. im disappointed, but its not like we have everyone healthy and we suck. atleast we know that with the team we have, when healthy, can rip it up with the best of them. we would be top 3 or 4 right now. probably only behind detroit and san antonio. injuries are a b****. lets just hope for the best and look out for next season.

it's still possible that we can go 31-15 and have a chance at the 8th seed, but we have to start winning now.

    45. A team needs 45 to get in most years (in the West). That's 33 W's. And not many L's.

Give Yao and TMac all the time in the world to get healthy -- for next year. There is no this year anymore.

I agree 100%, let TMac and Yao rest and recover completely. Sure they may want to play a few games this year, but the fewer the better. Like Xiki said, this year is over, let's do the best we can to prepare for next year. Get Yao and Tracy healthy, make some trades, and get a good player in the draft.

You mean this team that lost 6 in a row, 8 out 10, playing .333 ball, and is missing the top two players on the the team will start winning soon?

It's over, the fat lady has left the building.

agreed deep blue. this season was over a month ago. they just don't have it. a ton of injuries, poor coaching, a font office sitting on its hands and not wanting to put a quality team on the floor.

What is the front office supposed to do? Convince teams that injured players are what they need? Could any coach in the league have done better than JVG with 5 or 6 rotation players out, including the best 2 players?

Trust me, this team isn't giving up.

rick carlilse did it last year with the pacers. i'm not expecting JVG to do what rick did in getting his team to the playoffs, but we should still be able to beat the hawks, raptors, celtics, hornets, and bobcats.

this team may not be giving up, but the excuses (which are legit) are getting old. you can still win games without yao and tracy. there are teams in the nba with less than us on the floor but are still managing to get wins. i'm not asking for the playoffs anymore, that's gone, but i want a competitive team that can still win games.

you must have missunderstrood my post.

i said that it's possible to win the amound of games needed to make the playoffs, but we have to start winning now. obviously starting to win now is not probable.
