Originally posted by MacBeth They were just interviewing Cuttino pre-game here on the local Raptors tv channel, and he made some interesting, if not welcome, comments. The announcer asked him to comment on having to adjust to having a legit big man like he had early in his career with (an admitedly aged ) Olajuwon, and the criticism that they don't get Yao the ball enough, and Cuttino responded fairly adamantly. He bristled, looked right down at the floor for a second, and then said ( Almost word for word) " You know, Hakeem and Yao are totally different types of players...Dream was way, way, way more aggressive, while Yao is, you know, more of a passive type...He likes to look pass a lot, even when he's, you know, single covered. The thing is we can't be looking to him all the time, we;ve got lots of players...lots of weapons on this team, and we need to use them all, not be looking at one guy. People can, you know, say what they want about us...we don't care."
God, I hope he's gone by next season. This quote represents everything that is wrong with the Rockets.
I wonder how that translates into Chinese and back...

You know, Hakeem and Yao is the completely different type player... dream is the way, the way, the way is quite enterprising, although Yao is, you know, more than 1 passive... he like looking the pass are very many, since works as he are, you know, the only covered. The matter is we is not possible to look to his all times, we have many players... many weapons which obtains in this team, and we need to use them completely, does not look one person. The people energy, you know, said what they must not care about about our... us.

Seems like it says that the many is more important than the one, or maybe the Rockets strive to be greater than the sum of Yao's parts.
read yao's last interview and CAT's comment, looks like there is some issues between Yao and CAT. errr........
If this is true, I am not surprised at all. The fact SF wasnt passing enough to Yao is mostly because of inability than selfishness. For Cat, it is both, much more so with the latter.
No wonder Mobley doesn't want to pass the ball to open man when he is single covered. He treats that as passive.
Cat is the one player that has to make the biggest adjustment, he and Steve both need to work on getting the ball to Yao and moving OFF the ball, or more poinently moving without the ball. DD
didn't hear that comment and don't care. there's nothing wrong with what mobley said. people here need to stop looking for flaws with the rockets and just sit back and enjoy the season. hopefully they'll make the playoffs. there are some really stupid and oversensitive yao and francis fans on this board. people need to stop being overly suspicious and making controversy out of nothing.
Tonight it seemed in the second half that Mobley was running the point and dribbling up the floor, and was actually dishing it into Yao. I wouldn't read too much into the quote.
I don't know if we can really blame Cat for making that comment. When you got coach who can't coach and leaders who can't lead, players become disoriented and confused. It all starts at the top. If we have a coach like Riley, we would not be hearing this kind of garbage from Cat and Yao. Rudy must go for this team to have any chance of improving itself.
I don't think there is anything wrong with what Cat said. It is how he plays the ball on the court that matters.
All Cat said was that he didn't care about the criticism and that there are many weapons on the team.
"Did you hear what Mobley said about Yao?" yeah, I heard Mobley say Yao was "a big fat poop head." Mobley's a meany. stay tuned.
How is it selfishness to say that he wants Yao to take his man when he is single covered and that he wants to get everyone on the team involved? You Cat haters should do know how to read the negative into a pretty insightful and positive comment by Mobley.
It's human nature to be jealous or at least annoyed. At first Cat wasn't jealous because Yao was just another player, but with a LOT of hype. It was still Steve and Cat's team. The questions were innocuous and so was Yao's game. Then Yao started to become good. And as Yao improved by yards, the press coverage grew by miles. People clamored for more Yao. Yao gets voted into the All-Star game. Yao is on SI (twice). Yao is on SportsCenter with red "SIGN HERE" Arrows pointing to his head, wide open, while the guards turn the ball over. Then the questions become widespread. This guy can play, why are you still jacking up 17 shots. He makes 50%, you make 43%. Hmmm.. the math doesn't add up. It wouldnt be that bad except this Yao guy is also 10 x the passer you are. Sure he had years to hone his technique (including the bounce pass - oh my god) with his sorry Communist team. No excuses. And the questions and criticism become repetitious.... First Linda Cohn, then Tim Legler, then Fran Blinebury - the Holy Trinity of basketball experts. Cat, how does it feel to play with Yao. Cat, why do ignore Yao when he rolls to the basket Cat, why are you shooting the same FG % when youre getting more wide open looks than ever Cat, blah blah blah................... Finally the damn breaks and he realizes that no matter how humble or good natured this Yao guy is, it's just freaking annoying to be treated as a second hand citizen - getting all the blame for losses and none of the credit for wins. It's unfair. The worst part of all this? Yao is only going to get better and Cat won't.
