Could/should we have tried to trade up with Pheonix and get Stoudemire? He shure looked good tonight! I'm not giving up on Boki yet but could you imagine Stoudemire on the Rockets. Our frontline would be TUFF! I know it's to early to judge him and hind sight is 20/20 but damn he is athletic. It's going to be fun watching him go against Eddie for the next 10 years.
Amare does look good, but he would not fit into our system at all. The dude could not throw a rock into the ocean. Not saying that he wont get better, but I doubt shooting will ever be his strong point. We need shooter on our team when Steve and Cat penetrate and dish off. Maurice, Griffin, KT, Ming, Rice, Boki and now Tmo all can shoot the rock. Besides we dont need any more super young players on our team that will take 2-3 years to develop.
The Rockets tried to trade up but Phoenix wasn't budging. Besides, once Nachbar gets some confidence he will be better suited to be an explosive SF then Stoudemire or Griffin would have. People forget, Dirk was HORRIBLE his first year and looked a lot like Nachbar did. A year of experience and Dirk is unstoppable.
Uh, because you make it worth thier while. Of course you have to give something to get something. We scouted the guy so I'm asking, did we make a mistake not trading up to get him. Its really not that hard.
.....and what do you think it would have taken to get Phoenix interested in trading down? KT + the Boki pick weren't going to be enough.
I agree that Amare can't shoot, but can you imagine a lineup of Stoudemire, Griffin, Boki, Mobley and Francis? They'd run people to death. Plus, we have enough shooters with Rice and Boki. Stoudemire is also a beast on the boards, and the Rockets could use that as well. But it's pretty much a moot point- Phoenix has him and Houston doesn't.
Bring this up at the end of the season. Not now. It's what Nachbar does, not what Stoudemire does that counts. Yes, Nene and Amare will be "monsters" in 3 years... By the way, I hope you don't post a "should we have drafted this player, or that player" post everytime a rookie does well. Please don't bring up Qyntel Woods if he has a good game.
We have PLENTY of shooters. There's just no substitute for tough interior players like that. Still only 19 years old, I think he has plenty of time to work on a jump shot. Considering our offense though, we just won't rely on pounding the ball inside, so he wouldn't fit our system. Barkley and Dream are going to be the last Rockets for a good long period to be true post players. I'd rather have Amare over Cato though.
who saw this thread coming? well there's no mistake because it's not like we passed on some kind of offer. anyways where do we play him if griffin is just as good and fits our system seemingly alot better.
DavidS The reason I brought this up is because during the draft there was talk here bout us trying to trade up to get him. I havent seen that combination of size/athleticism since S Kemp was being called the Rain man. Before we ended up with the #1 pick he was the player I wanted us to draft most. Even after we got the #1 pick I was hoping he would somehow slip to us or fall far enough for us to make a run at him with our second first rounder plus. By the way I predict Q Woods is going to be a bust. Mulletman I can see Griffin getting many minutes at the center position this year. With a rotation of Ming, Griffin, MOT and Stoudemire our frontcourt woudl be set for years. Not that it isn't anyway but it would be just tht much better. ROckets03 "Besides we dont need any more super young players on our team that will take 2-3 years to develop." Why? Stoudemire is good enough to come in and make a contribution at a team weekness (rebounding and low post defense) in limited minutes. Why wouldn't you want that.
words of wisdom here....boki will fit much much better into our lineup once he gets adjusted. so take a deep breath guys...and remember the beginning of the season doesn't really matter that much.
In a way, I kinda relieved that Boki isn't doing that well. Langhi did spectacularly in his first preseason, and frankly I think it raised our expectations for him way too high, which hurt him in the long run. give boki some time. his presence sure seems to have lit a fire under t-mo though.
Actually, Boki has looked better each game. He sank a three that didn't get counted because of a charging foul by MoT, but he moved well, had two steals and one or two nice assists. Also, I noticed that he seems to have really good chemistry with MoT. That could be a really nasty two-headed monster coming off of the bench. (Hmm, of course he had that nice dish to griffin for the lay-up as well.) Does anyone else find it interesting that Rudy has saved Boki for crunch-time (the 4th quarter) each game?
It is just preseason and Amare has only had three games, although we are all impressed. Good power forwards are easier to find than great centers though. I still like Yao. Also, weve seen the Garnetts, Kobes, McGradys and whoever come into this league and develop into all-stars after a few seasons. That being said, I do find it quite unique that a high schooler can come in and 1) Have such a filled out NBA body and 2) Show the intestinal fortitude to bang down low. Amare may be poised to dominate quicker than any of the high schoolers before him. It will be fun to watch Marion and him play together for years to come. Who has potentially better forwards in this league?
I always wanted us to trade up for him. I always wanted to because I projected the logjams that we are seeing now and thought we could move KT and the #15 pick. I wanted to go to the Knicks or the Heat. But you cannot win them all. It is like how I believe we gave up too much for EG. I saw the Nets game last night vs Celts and the 3rd player in that trade, Armstrong, showed a lot last night. NJ is very deep at his position but he definitely have the attitude and touch to be in the rotation. As you know Scott is one of those who likes a long rotation. But for the Rockets, the fact is we have had many options and still do.
Of course Phoenix would have never traded down. Actually Amare was #1 on their list and they even tried to trade up to make sure they will get him. He was in Phoenix for 2 workouts , had a fantastic radio interview, visited the Diamondbacks with Colangelo. As a sunsfan i couldn't be more excited, this kid can be the best PF in the league.
Once again, 3 weeks of training camp and a couple of meaningless games and Boki is a bust. Give the man some time.
