Very interesting trade in that we really didn't even trade away hardly any of our supposed "assets". Everyone had Hill/Budinger/Ppat/Twill packaged in almost every trade scenario. Instead we come away with getting Thabeet/Dragic. Both young players with upside. If they end up performing well and raise their value we have 2 more possible assets. Along with the two first round draft picks we received. I think this was a great trade by Morey. It allows our young prospects to get more playing time and continue to stockpile young players/picks in the event that we can actually grab a star. Looks like another safe move by Morey.
You don't consider having two first round draft picks+2 young players with upside better than having the expiring Battier/Brooks contracts? This is a brilliant move for the long-term. Can't wait to watch the Nets/Rockets game this saturday.
Yep more assets. We've been collecting assets since '07 and I guess theres always next year...as we've said the past several years
2 late first rounders? A Brilliant move?? No no no LOL - get off your knees for Morey. There WAS alot of superstar movement - we overvalued our asset's and failed to get a superstar. What happened today was like plan C,E or F.
We got worse today, if we went after Perkins or Muhammed (sp?) or Pryzbilla (sp? again) it would have been a good day, instead we added nothing of value.
Morey got the best that he could. I'm sure he could of done some dumb moves to make us a playoff team. Thankfully he didn't.
Well, we keep on accumulating assets, but there's gotta be some time where the whole point of the team isn't to stockpile draft picks and young players.
Technically yes, but we would have likely extended Brooks at his rookie salary next season. Now we have that same option with both Dragic and Hasheem, while saving a few bucks and added a few draft picks. I'd say we definitely added assets.
That's my point. All of Morey's plans were to stockpile "talent" and trade for a superstar. He overvalued our talent and failed.
Not so fast, Joshfast. Two superstars moved. TWO. How do you turn that into "alot" {sic} of superstar movement? Are you actually counting Perkins, Mayo, Wallace, BDiddy, Landry, Green etc. as superstars?
LOL - that wasn't the plan, that was a best case scenario dealing with the crap hand the Rockets have been dealt. Turn low-to-no value assets like Rafer etc into higher value assets, then hope for the best. If he had realistically "planned" to be able to flip expirings like Brooks, Battier into Deron Williams - he's dumber than your post.
I agree. Of all the assets involved in the trades, Aaron Brooks was worth the most. And we sold that asset when the market was at it's lowest. He wasn't expiring; he was an RFA. We could have re-signed him or S&Ted him in the offseason. Trading Battier made all the sense in the world, but trading him for a 1st rounder doesn't seem like much of a haul (though it's not clear what pick it is we're getting here). We perhaps multiplied our assets, but I don't see how we increased their total value.
