Did we draft the wrong guy (i.e. Yao Ming)?

Had we drafted another guy, would Rockets have a better season?

IMHO There is an inherent mismatch between Yao's game and Francis/Mobley/even Rudy. As we all have seen, integrating Yao into Rockets' current system was very difficult and unsuccessful (for this season). I know in long team they might gel well together. Yao have the talent to be dominant. Francis might improve his PG skill and Rudy might find his great X's and O's touches. But let's just play a game here ( now the season is practically over, what else can we do, other than cursing?).

Among last year's top ten picks:
    Yao Ming
    Jay Williams
    Mike Dunleavy
    Drew Gooden
    Nickoloz Tskitishvili
    Dajuan Wagner
    Maybyner "Nene" Hilario
    Chris Wilcox
    Amare Stoudemire
    Caron Butler

Who do you think would fit Rockets better for THIS and maybe next season?

If Rockets drafted Jay Williams and trade for a great PF, or if Rockets drafted Drew Gooden, Nickoloz Tskitishvili, Dajuan Wagner, etc, and play the old (guard-oriented) way, I think they might have more wins. Francis and Mobley definitely would do better ( we can see they have been suffering as learning to play with Yao and team ball).

I feel empty and want to talk to you guys.

it depends on what's more important to you. Sure we might have won a few more games if we had drafted a different type of player and didn't have to use time to learn to adapt to his game. Sure that might get us into the playoffs this year...but what about the future? We know Yao has the potential to become a super dominant player and I don't think there are too many people who will argue against that.

So now that we've drafted Yao, the only thing to do is to build around him instead of around Francis/Mobley. To tell you the truth, I'd rather have a future with Yao than an asswhooping 1st round exit in the playoffs this year.

We would maybe have more wins, but would have been swepped in the first round.Personnaly I'd rather not go to the playoff THIS season and have a brighter futur than play ugly, selfish, guard oriented bball and finally being bottom off the league.
I think it's Clutch or Jeff that said that we're better off with 1 Franchise player than 2 or 3 average players.
So in the end,I think our draft was a good one,but the dynasty only starts next season.

    Absolutely.

Francis and mobley feel happy because they can have the ball dribbling for the rest of their nba career.

Coaches feel happy because they can earn their living by simply sending 5 ISO players to the court.

Rockets feel happy because they might have better chance to the playoff this year.

Fans of clutchcity here feel happy because they dont have to deal with yao only fan.

Yao feels happy because he doesnt have to join the most selfish team in the nba.

Yao only fans feel happy because they dont have to explore the beauty of rockets offense and defense, which they dont have any success for the whole season.

Yeah, life must be much better for we all if rockets didn't draft yao ming.

    Cato would be happy starting,
    KT happy staying here,
Mr. Mean happy to lead Rockets to playoff,
Chicago happy to have Yao (as if it matters)
Rudy would have a less stressful season and not going down.

    low stress = no cancer?

Be honest...at least with yao in there they tried to tone down the boneheadedness of the isos. You tell me you would rather watch dumbass isos than at least an attempt to play team ball?

And Yao-haters as well. I am tired of Yao-haters as much as Yao-only fans.

Success without failure is boring. This builds character.

Of course I wouldn't. But if it's a win, the way you play would look much prettier, isn't it? At that time you might even say Rockets are very smart to tailor their offense scheme according to their players strengths. Wining cures everything. I think Gooden would help us to get more wins in the next two years than Yao.

Hey, then trade yao to magic for gooden. They will do it in a heart beat. Too bad you are not the GM of rockets.

Dont get me wrong. I have no problem that u think gooden can bring more wins to houston. If it is the best interests of both houston and yao, I am more than happy to see yao playing at orlando. Too bad it wont happen.

Yao was the right pick. The ideal pick. The others, or a trade, would have been fine but Yao was EXTRA FINE.

I think this is all a mute point. We're not going to the playoffs becuase of one main factor: the team can not consistently move the ball around. When we move the ball around, it's been proven that we can beat even the best teams, e.g. LAL, the Mavs, SA, Philly, etc. It's when a few heads decide that they must ISO that we lose, lose and lose again.

Of course, it'd help considerably if we could actually put the ball in the hoop.

Yao was good for 3/4 of the season. He ran out of gas in the last 1/4 of the season and cost us the playoffs. 6 points in a crucial game is very disappointing.

But is "run out of gas" is the real reason behind this? How come all team run out of gas at the same time together?

I think most of us forget that when Yao was first drafted, everyone expected him to be a huge project that would pay off in a couple years and not do much in his first year. Now that Yao surprized everyone by becoming a ROY contender, everyone wants him to dominate right way, every game he that he does not get at least 15/10, he's a failure or he hit the rookie wall. We must remember that he is just a rookie, and he was never expect to do much this season.

I think Mobely might be happy run ISO and not change his game, Franchise is a winner he's much happier to change his game and aim for a long term success.

5 ISO players on the court means totally unwatchable basketball. The beauty of BBall lies in teamwork and passing. IE. show time lakers, Jordan Chicago Bulls. In this season, there's 3 games where the Rox plays team ball almost to perfection, they win by large margin and everyone is in double figure. Most importantly, for the fan the game is much more fun to watch than watching Cat or Franchise's endless dribbling and then throw up a brick at the end of shot clock.

    Are you high???

Of course we made the right pick...You'd be crazy not to pick Yao...

Granted, we're out of the playoffs, again...but to say it's Yao's position that lost it for us...

Listen, no matter who we would have picked, you still would have had Stevie, Cat, Rice EG & Cato...

That should tell you one pick isn't going to help your cause...

Least we forget what our record was last year...
