"League sources say Walker's side has been looking into sign and trade options that would allow him to get more than the mid-level exception. The Celtics could be amenable to that type of deal only if it allowed them to trim their payroll in a year or two. Failing that, the C's aren't looking to take back anyone with a hefty long-term contract."

    Rockets have several of those.

You know what? If it came between packaging our expiring contracts for Walker in a SnT (and a contract in the $8-9 million range), or just sending Boston expiring contracts for Raef LaFrentz and maybe a draft pick... I'd rather just have LaFrentz, personally.

Walker will probably get a contract starting at $6.5 or so; I guess that would probably average out to $8mil per year.

I also wondered about Raef Lafrentz. God knows the Celtics would love to rid themselves of his contract---but THAT's the scary contract. About four more years, I think.

Now, if we try to get Walker and Ricky Davis, that would get the Celtics' payroll down quite a bit.

Yes, Davis is IQ-challenged, but he's young, can run, can stick the three. And he's, what?, 6'7"?

I think the Celtics signing Scalabrine means that Walker is about out the door. They have Scalabrine, LaFrentz and Jefferson at the PF spot so is there room for Walker?

I am sure the C's are trying to move Walker along with a bad contract. Would you take on Mark Blount or Raef Lafrentz to be able to acquire Walker? That's probably what Ainge will offer to other teams.

Davis is actually a pretty mediocre 3-point threat -- believe it or not, LaFrentz has been a more consistent 3-point threat over his career. Scary thing is, they're BOTH better from 3 than 'Toine is. Over the last three seasons, Walker has hit from behind the line at a blistering .309 clip.

Wow, if we could dump 2 of the 3 crap contracts we have and pay Walker less than 8 mil, then I'd be really happy. I'd take it in a sec.

I was kinda wondering the same sort of thing, could it be possible the Rockets are using Swift as leverage? Probably not, but IF Walker wanted to come here and he is reading how interested we are in Swift, he might lower his price just to come here.

Haha, I'm just bored and thinking of any scenario possible. :p

Boston only does this trade for good players the Rox don't want to give up, versus the "expiring contract" players that nobody wants.

    Just say no to Walker.

Expiring contracts may not be enough "sugar" for the "medicine" of Raef's contract go down. From the Rox perspective, they might want another player like Green to sweeten the deal ;)

In today's Chicago Tribune, Bulls GM John Paxson denied the Walker-for-Davis rumor. That's one less competitor for Antoine.

Paxson also shot down a rumored sign-and-trade deal with the Boston Celtics involving Antonio Davis for Antoine Walker. Regarding veteran free agent Donyell Marshall, Paxson doubted the team's payroll could afford "what he's looking for."

Personally, I never liked Walker, till last season. The comment from someone, that Walker is the only one player who can actually hurt his team by putting up a triple double, always reminds me how irresponsible and trigger happy he could be.

But he did change a lot in last season, love or hate him, the guy does have talent. If his change is not just a one season miracle, I'd say I would like to take the risk, because Rockets definitely need upgrade in talents and youth. I am really surprised that he's only 28, coz it felt like he's been there forever.

Man, I hate off-season so much that I always involve in D&D political debates, which is very bad for my health:)

My thinking is that Ainge will try & force us to take a bad contract like Blount (30 y/o & 5 years left) or LaFrentz (29 y/o & 4 years left). While very costly, both players could help us. But, in the end, I'm guessing it'll be something like:

    Spoon/#1 pick for AW

    or

    James/Baker for AW

with AW making $6-7 million his first year.
