Did playing in China during the offseasons cause Yao's injury?

You're like 2 yrs late. And i dont believe he played in the CBA while he was a Rocket.

IIRC he did play in the CBA. He bought his former team, the Shanghai Sharks, after he became a millionaire.

 

Seriously, STOP CREATING these non sense threads again! NO! Yaos injury was not caused by playing in the offseason!

Forgive me for sounding agitated, I am sick and tired of people blaming the CBA or the Chinese National Team for Yaos injuries.

Yao plays what a total of less than 30 games for China in the past 7 years and yet you guys just blame China.

As an Australian that lived in China for 2 years I understood that there is such a cultural misunderstanding between the east and the west, as a long time Yao fan, in the beginning, I was also angry at the CBA for forcing Yao to play every summer.

But heres the deal: YAO wants to PLAY HIMSELF!

There is nothing more important than representing your country as an athlete, I understand he should play in the meaninigless games, however those games are aimed for him to gel with the team for the bigger competition such as World Champs and the Olympics.

You have to understand, although Yao is under contract with the Rockets, but he is also a national figure for China, his services mean more than just dribbling the ball on the court.

We should all be happy that China has not asked Yao to stop playing for the Rockets and just focus on the National Team, yes as far fetched as this sounds, this is possible! Dont bring human rights stuff into this, because it has nothing to do with it, representing your country is the ultimate prize and pride for a Chinese athlete.

China has been very lenient with Yao, and for him not to play in the 2012 London Olympics will not just be a betrayal of his motherland, but also his people. Go to China and have a look yourself, understand its culture before you make your judgements.

With power comes with great responsibilities, Yao also belongs to the people of China, this cultural misunderstanding is seriously whats causing so many problems in todays world!

You are a little strong in your words about Yao not playing in 2012 Olympics. It doesn't seem like Yao is interested in playing in 2012. He basically said China was killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

Yao has played a total of 481 + playoff games

Yao has played a total of 41 games for China

Shouldnt China blame Houston for the injuries? Yes you can bring in in the financial contract reason, if China never allowed Yao to goto the Rockets, where would we be now? As a Rockets fan, we should seek to understand rather criticise Yao and China...

Who is more significant (i.e. ability to impact more lives)?

Yao the Rocket or Yao the Chinese team leader, Chinese symbol?

We should learn a lesson or two about the collectivist attitude of the far East...

 

Why should China blame Houston? Is China the one paying Yao Ming's salary? No, China is the one mooching off on Yao Ming while Yao Ming is in the employ of the Houston Rockets.

Yao is obligated to play all those games for Houston because Houston is paying him 20M a year. These injuries Yao Ming has had over the years were worsened because Yao doesn't get any rest in the offseason, his body is damaged every year and doesn't have any time to recover.

And the collectivist attitude of the east as you call is dead. China has become a capitalist nation and has abandoned that Maoist/socialist way of governing things you refer to.

When he should have been resting ...... working out, but basically chillin like most NBA players..... Yao was fulfilling his obligations/desires/"training" or whatever you you want to call it .... You can bet your ass all this and more was built into his contract too!

I realize how important Yao coming to the NBA was on many levels. He's a special guy and a true ambassador.

And while this is a wonderful story in so many ways I must confess to be rather disgusted by the Chinese governments handling of this situation. Yes, Yao was to be more than a person and is. He's a symbol, in many ways. Unfortunately one of them is similiar to Sam Bowie et. al...

It's been a problem since he came to the Rockets. We knew it then and we know it know. It's like asking if Yao was soft as a tissue when he first came to the Rockets.

I remember this very discussion before he was even drafted. We talked about how so few players had long careers at his size....how him playing games for China in the offseason would likely mean little rest for his body, which would only exacerbate the problem.

None of this is unexpected. It's why I'm amazed when people here are surprised about gloomy health forecasts and limited minutes for the man. It's old news.
