Inevitable, the Disney Channel kids that followed her have hit puberty and the new generation of Disney Channel kids are over her. She probably has a 4 year window to be a sexy pop star in the Britney/Christina mold. In fact I couldn't tell who was singing that autotuned ditty, if the thread title hadn't mentioned Miley it could have just as easily been Britney. 10 years down the road maybe a "comeback" country album. Still she has more jack than I'll ever see..so good for her I guess.
Nah. It's part of the Disney/Nickelodeon formula: experiment with child actors as co-stars on a show choose a handful of child co-stars to potentially be the next big 'star' give one or two of those co-stars their own show for approx 3-5 years* make a few kid-friendly movies with child actor when child grows to teen years, transform child from kiddie tv show star to sexy pop star make a few teen-friendly movies with new image have teen star go through controversial struggle (weight loss, weight gain, plastic surgery, alcohol, drugs, etc.) build and image of the teen as a victim who beats the controversial struggle Make more movies of "star" as a strong, mature, and competent actress Notes: during step 3, when the teen has their own show, introduce new children as co-stars so that this process can be repeated again. this formula is profitable, but not always succeeds in building superstars. Some failures have been with children like Raven Simone and Brenda Song. Some successes have been with Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cirus, and Hilary Duff. Miranda Cosgrove is the next one - she's just now at stage 5.
I don't get the issue. Well, I guess it's kinda older than her by a year or 2. But I don't think it's anywhere near the videos Britney and Christina released that were semi-controversial. Of course, if this is her "transition" and then she goes further in that direction.. then maybe so
Who cares. She makes like 20 mil a year has millions of fans and can sell out a 70000 seat arena. How many people ever achieve anything close to that in life.
it would be nice to see one of these girls grow up in a classy, respectful and nonslutty way. I just don't get why all of a sudden they have to become whorey. She had a great thing going. Yes, she can't always be kiddy, but what's wrong with not being slutty? ANd that new song is terrible.
She didn't grow up too fast, she experienced too much success without having to "earn" it. Obviously she's had to put in long hours and sacrifice being a kid, but her success has precious little to do with talent or skill. So now she, like many Britney's and Lohan's before her, has a screwed up perception that she manufactured her own success as a wunderkind and anything she splatters against a wall will be considered high art. So she abandons the studio and production team that made her and tries to bank D-grade talent on her own. And worse, this happens as she's in her late teens and overly wrapped up in young love and first tastes of alcohol/drugs. Skipping record.
I know I am going to H-E-double-hockey-sticks for this... but every time I see a Miley Cirus picture or mention anywhere, I can't help but to picture: ... wait for it... Spoiler = She has that "look." I apologize. I know it's not right. Are you telling me you DON'T know of any? Looks like you don't watch enough Disney Channel or Disney movies. I do. I know of some. I don't see anything "grown up" about that video. There are no innuendos or different messages other than "I am rebelling now, y'all!" statements in the video and lyrics. She's in a cage, she dances with some peeps. So she has money and she makes an expensive video. I don't see too much wrong in that. I would see the question about "grow up too fast??" and the concern if the video was a little more, oh, say... "mature." FYI: She turns 18 this November. Just an FYI. Kam, did you say before that you DIDN'T like Miley?
Answer: The Disney/Nickelodeon formula has been carefully created with the intent of overcoming certain specific hurdles: (1) Traditionally it has been difficult for child actors to transform into teen 'stars' because companies would try to milk the 'cute kid' image for too long. When the audience would grow out of it, the company would just discard the kid and try to find another kid. The newer formula overcomes this hurdle by attempting to discard the 'cute-kid' image, and they've found success in doing this by supplanting it with a 'sexy pop singer' image, which is what their audience grows into wanting after they've grown out of wanting the 'cute kid' image. (2) The teen-to-adult hurdle is more difficult. This is where the controversial struggle comes in. By introducing the controversial struggle, they intentionally generate an amount of negative publicity to the teen pop star. This is designed to keep them in the spotlight, even if the press is bad. Without the controversial struggle, they just continue to generate bland, mediocre music and movies that people lose interest in. Once the 'teen pop star' overcomes their struggle, they have the image of being a young adult who is a strong winner and achiever, building admiration and interest from their audience (who has, again, grown out of wanting the teen image and wants an image of someone who can relate the the tribulations of growing into an adult).
