As I said in Dec. '02........ 1) The Rockets have NO chance at the playoffs 2) The Rockets have NO chance at a championship with Steve Francis sucking up max $ 3) Les Alexander was, is, and always shall be 'The Housotn Sports Anti-Christ' Welcome to the world of the Housotn NHL fan. With the SOLE exceptions of Clyde and Yao aquisitions, Les has sold the Rockets by the pound since day 1.
Thank you for taking up space telling us you told us so, maybe you should start your own physic hot line you could make you some money. I really hope this tread is locked!
Thats OK, Somine, a 900 number wont be needed. The spectacle of the Rockets home opener next year will do nicely as a forum!
It was pretty obvious by December that this season was going to be an inconsistent roller coaster ride; I pointed out the problems as well about mid December. However, it is ridiculous to blame this on Les Alexander. Les has done whatever it takes to win from making trades, to spending money, etc. If you want to fault him for trusting his basketball people too much then fine, but dont call him a cheap owner. That type of title needs to be reserved for Drayton McLane (but thats a different topic). The reason the Rockets are in a mediocre capped out situation is Carroll and Rudy, NOT Les. If Carroll Dawson had thought twice before committing the ridiculous contracts he did to mediocre role players, the Rockets would not be in the capped out mess they are currently in. Luckily, they have a few tradeable assets ie. Mobley and Griffin to address the problems of this team.
Yetti Since you must have been too stoned to read my posts over the 3-4 years,....ask Jeff. If you were a hockey fan, you would consider my assesment of Les Alexander a compliment .........MM.....Youre dreamin bubba!!!! Does the name Matt Maloney mean ANYTHING to you???!!!???!!! (And I'm just pointing out my favorite, but I could list contracts for HOURS!!!!!!!!
Well considering he's the only owner that's actually fielded a team that's won championships for the city of Houston, I'd find it hard to say he's the "anti-christ" of Houston sports...
Hey Geek, You seem to be confused about the difference between BUILDING A TEAM and DISMANTLING A TEAM. Excluding an aging Clyde Dexler, name ONE player brought to the championship teams by Les Alexander. C'mon.....you can do it.......what?!?!.....you can't???? Thats because THERE ISN'T ONE,...not a single one in the history of his ownership
Truth, maybe you should read my post a tad more closely. The tons of bad contracts are NOT Les's fault. He simply goes by what his basketball people tell him as an owner should do. Blame Rudy and CD for Maloney, Moochie, Taylor, Cato etc; Les is definitely not to blame here. Freak, if the Rockets dont make changes this summer ie Mobley gone, they will be stuck in mediocrity. I am willing to bet anyone on this board that if the Rockets stand a pat hand, they will be in the lottery for the FIFTH straight season. Luckily, according to what we read on this bbs, they wont stand a pat hand.
If they don't get rid of Mobley, they'll be 'stuck in mediocrity'? That makes a lot of sense. So even if Yao Ming becomes a top 5 player in the league, they won't improve, because of Cuttino Mobley. Riiiiiight. The Rockets improving is all in the hands of Francis and Ming. Staying pat or no, this is the case.
Actually my favorite was signing Cato to that rediculous contract after he got something like 6 blocks after one pre-season game. Has Cato ever gotten 6 blocks in another NBA game after that? I also like taking on the Glen Rice contract (while he was injured too). Plus, what was the point of Boki this year?
Some of the European contracts are indeed classics. If I could spell (or say) any of their names, I would list them.
Freak, Yao and Francis wont improve w/o the appropriate role players to complement their games which Mobley is not. Obviously, I dont advocate getting rid of Mobley for crap, but adding a solid distributor that will help out Yao and Steve. You can discount the importance of key role players, but I guarantee you that Iverson would never have become the player he is now if Hughes and Stackhouse were still on the team as opposed to Snow and McKie. Kobe Bryant and Shaq O'Neal would not have become as deadly a combo as they did if Campbell and Jones were still on the team. There is this little thing called chemistry. A team needs to have its stars which the Rockets do, and the role players that complement their games which the Rockets dont. Too many players requiring the ball is a bad recipe which prevents the true stars from reaching their real potential. If you want to argue that appropriate role players dont mean anything thats fine, but that simply is not the case.
I actually have an idea for "Truth" How bout you go ahead and be Laker fan or a Spurs fan or even the Kings. Obiviously you dont like the Rockets, and noone is asking you to stay around! Im ready for an up and down season next year, but I expect big things, so when we are doing well. However I have the self confidence not come running when next season is over telling everyone "I told you so". I guess some people have NO confidence and use anything they can to try and build that up. Oh well Im sorry if Iam offensive, however someone named "Truth" should have no problem excepting the truth!
heard on sports radio today that weve still got maloney for 2 more years!!! they said it was at 6 million, but do yall know if that was for each year or both? the real question is, why dont we play maloney at kick moochie to the curb? im sure ol' matty could do just as well a job dribbling out the shot clock.
