I be watching ESPN Sportscenter and David(my best friend is Clutch)Aldridge reported that the Bulls offered the Blazers their #4 pick for...JERMAINE O'NEAL??????? Now, don't you wish Cato didn't have such a big contract? I know I do. Imagine... ------------------ Live Rocketball. Breathe Rocketball. Die with Rocketball.
I don't buy that. The Bulls need a legitimate center, not someone who has platooned the position thus far in his career. It sounds like Portland is trying to build the value of Jermaine(who is a decent player) so they can get something valuable for him. Isn't that illegal at this point in time anyhow? ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
Doesn't O'Neal make $5 million or so? (Just checked.....made 5.075 mill last year, with a 12.5% raise, that becomes $5,709,275 which is more than Cato's first year starting next year) There has been that rumor flying for awhile, here are some of the finer points of it- 1. Blazers want Pryzbilla. It was in a Minnesota newspaper, about how a former Blazer scout (don't remember name...he died some time this year) was talking to his former coaches, etc. about him, and apparently like him. 2. The reason Chicago likes this, is because O'Neal, McGrady, and Tim Thomas (the latter 2 being free agents) are all friends, and have talked of eventually playing together. O'Neal, while giving Chicago a center to go next to brand would be a big chip to acquire the other two in free agency, filling out the Bulls promising lineup of a PG (they could get the best one at #7....Barkley had a REALLY good workout for them), McGrady, Thomas, Brand, O'Neal, with Artest off the bench. I've mainly heard it for the #7 pick. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more! I would take Jermaine O'neal over Mihm or Pryzbilla, no questions, regardless of contract. Nike- that is very interesting. That is a damn fine starting five: 5- O'neal 4- Brand 3- Thomas 2- McGrady 1- Barkley Artest coming off the bench. Wow.
yeah...throw in the last first rounder (Hightower? Former HS teammate of TMac's, said he beat TMac 1-on-1 a lot), 3 2nd rounders (big men here....Magloire, McClintock, and take a flyer on Porter?) which seems some good prospects could come, and our great friend Tarlac, and they could become a pretty tough team to beat in a couple of years. Portland would then have their defensive center to back Sabonis, and also.....a $5,000,000 trade exception. I wonder what kind of pick we could get for Cato...thinking about it, if Orlando wanted him, for their #5 wouldn't be too bad, since Mihm could slip there, we'd get more exception space, and Mihm, not bad...but I don't think they want Cato, just a hunch. I would be very suprised if the Bulls go for this deal. It has been a rumor for a while, but I just cannot see how they do it. I like Jermaine O'Neal's talent and potential, but he is not worth the 4th overall pick and is way too skinny to be a full time center; he is more a forward imho. Portland would do it in a heartbeat as they could either go for their future center or take a flyer on Darius Miles. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
No way is Jermaine O'Neal worth the #4, no way in hell. It's possible that Chicago wants to lock in T-Mac with his buddies O'Neal and, presumably, Tim Thomas. Maybe Milwaukee, desperate for a center, can trade Thomas to Chicago for one of those lottery picks; but even that I doubt---Thomas has indicated a desire to stay in Milwaukee (and why not? They're much closer to competing than Chicago). I wonder about trading Cato and drafting a point guard at #9 and trading these to Chicago for the #4 (Darius Miles?) but after watching Shaq tear apart Indiana tonight, I don't know if we want to go shopping for second-rate centers. ------------------
I think this is good for the Rockets though as this may change the Bulls mind about the 7 pick and have them go with Barkley instead of miles. I realize his stock is rising though but I can still dream. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in the back seat!
The reason Chicago may want Jermaine (besides his gigantic upside and athletic ability) is that there is a commonly held belief that the triangle offense doesn't require a true big man. Many think that a tall player who can function within an offense and play good D can play center in the triangle, even if he can't in other offenses. I'm not saying it's right, it is just what I've heard. ------------------ "Homosexuals are just trying to make their sodomy as morally acceptable as the sodomy I enjoy in my church-sanctioned marriage." I would trust any pick the Rockets take . They have good history. I would NOT trade my #4 or my #7 pick for O'neal if I were Chi.
