I live close to Philly. I'm listening to Philly sports talk and someone called up and said that Eddie Griffin died in Houston today in a car crash. Has anyone else heard this? I haven't seen it anywhere.

Hope not. I guess I have to refrain from the very obvious masturbation reference.

    Hope the guy is alright.

yeah hopefully it isn't true. The 610wip in host in Philly said they hadn't heard anythingat all about there being an accident or anything, so hopefully the caller was mistaken.

It must be a poor joke. It's not on any local news stations.

Howard Eskin brought it up again and said that they still haven't found anything regarding Eddie Griffin, so it probably isn't true.

I only found a report on KPRC about an unidentified driver who slammed into a train on the 17th. His body was burned beyond recognition, but the ME said the corpse was a tall and muscular individual and the vehicle was described as a black late model SUV, possibly a Nissan or Infinity.

Giff Nielsen just announced that, indeed, Eddie Griffin died in a car accident last week, but he is still gathering information.

As my close friend just commented he was a hell of a ball player. I said well... and he interuppted and said, hes much better then me. And then I put one and one together and realized that if I had been gifted with basketball skills I would have probably made the same life decisions, although it is kinda sad that thell'y probably report if true that he was well "engaged" at the time of the accident. I still remember that day when we got him in the draft, I thought it was the best move we had made in a while, of course I was delivering pizzas in deer park back then, listening to matt jackson, now I'm downtown and listening to matt jackson and sad for eddie griffin and his family. rip

Just heard it on the radio. But he didn't die today - it's just that his body was just identified. Yes, he was the one in the accident.

Edit: I heard this on 740 - didn't see the Channel 11 news report.

That's so surreal and tragic if true. That's two former Rockets who have passed away at a young age now, if it's true (the other being Jason Collier).

Giff only reported it was a car accident, no details.
