Did anyone see the highlights of the 12 minute brawl between the Royals and Tigers last night? Here's what happened:

Mike Sweeney (Royals) was up and asked the homeplate umpire to make pitcher Jeff Weaver move the Rosin bag to a less distractable position. You see Weaver put his glove up to the side of his mouth, like he's yelling something to the catcher. Sweeney then charges Weaver, who looked surprised as hell, nearly running backwards. Sweeney hits him with his helmet, his fist to the face, then body slams Weaver. Of course the benches empty, coaches start going at it. Nothing too terrible, even though it appeared Sweeney, a self-proclaimed Christian (way to turn that other cheek) was a little out of line. However, it started up again, and Sweeney was taking numerous rapid shots at the Tigers' catcher's head while a teammate was holding him down.

That was way out of line. In a league where Ted Lily can get suspended 6 games for hitting an Angels player despite no warning or ejection, Sweeney should be suspended for no less than 20 games in my opinion, with the coward who was holding the catcher down sitting on his ass beside him.

Did anyone else catch this? I've normally liked Sweeney. I've read articles about him and I respect his faith, but this has ruined any kind of respect he had from me.
