I was half asleep so maybe I didnt hear it all too clearly, but what I heard was something like this: Walton: The Sixers (maybe it was another team... not sure) want to 'stay humble, and stay hungry' in their hunt for a championship. Are you kidding me? Dude full on rips off Hakeem's statement from the 1994 NBA Playoffs. Walton blows!
Really? Once again I was nodding in and out of my nap at the time and only caught bits and pieces. I wish Walton would think of something original to say once in a while.
Walton is a moron. I don't why he is respected in this league. I guess all the other hippies think he's a groovy guy or something. I remember in '94 and '95, he NEVER gave the Rockets a chance. He always had his head up Patrick Ewing and David Robinson's butt. That first championship year, the Rockets were tearing it up all year long, so it shouldn't have come to anybody's surprise that we would win it all that year.
IMO that is what makes his commentating so interesting. He is always good for a quote, no matter how ridiculous it may be.
I actually enjoy listening to Walton. Albert and Jones always give him a rough time. Like the quote this weekend where Bill said something about one of the players having an attitude transplant. And then Jones said something like, "wait a minute, that would imply somebody else losing their attitude and giving it away." Some of the stuff Walton says is just so ridiculous I can't help but laugh. "Kevin Willis...plagued with short arms throughout his entire career." He contradicts himself all the time. Sometimes during the same game. There has to be a website devoted to Bill Walton quotes. If there's not, then I just might start one myself.
A testiment to waltons "smarts" During his senior season at UCLA Walton was having some problems with his feet or knees, I am not sure, He goes to Coach Wooden and asks if he can use a little hemp to "ease the pain" Wooden replys. Last time I checked it was illegal Bill. How bright of a guy goes and askes his coach if he can toke it up? Honestly thats like a olymip athlete telling their coach they do steroids to improve performance.
I don't know who's the bigger moron. Walton, or the buffoons who fall for his sarcasm, and then decide that Walton's the moron.
We went 58-24 that year. Overall a good record. But in the last 67 games, we went 43-24, which is a solid record, but not exactly "tearing it up all year long." Before you call people morons, make sure that you can't say the same about yourself. Before you talk smalk, make sure you know what exactly are you talking about. Make it at least look like you know what you're talking about.
Walton is one of the few guys in the media who gave Hakeem any kind of respect. Calling Walton a moron is pretty harsh, I enjoy listening him, that is when Steve "Snapper" Jones isn't riding his tail just to have a job on TV and "argue" with Walt. Actually I enjoy Bill Walton more doing college telecast, especially during last year's NCAA Tournament. To say that Houston winning the title in 1994 was a forgone conclusion and anybody who didn't think that is a moron is crazy. Phoenix was the reigning conference champions and were playing good ball. Seattle, a team that had Houston's number, had homecourt advantage throughout Western Conference playoffs. New York was considered the heir apparent to the Chicago Bulls, the Rockets were FAR from a forgone conclusion to win the championship. They almost didn't get out of the 2nd round.
