I caught the tail-end of DA mentioning something about a buyout and trade involving Alonzo. Can anyone tell me what he said, and more importantly, where Alonzo is going??

    Thanx

Toronto is buying him out @ a deep discount and he is expectected to carry Shaq's luggage.

The buyout is whatever Zo can get out of Toronto.

There's talk that because they have been accomodating and didn't force him to come to Toronto, that Zo has accepted a failry dicsounted buyout. Also, there are suggestions that a pending deal where Toronto is well compensated for someone like Donyell Marshall or Eric Williams heading to the Heat... who owes Toronto one for helping the Heat part with Dan McLean a couple of seasons ago.

Something like Eric Williams for Dorell Wright and Wesley Person (who sat out their last game), possibly Malik Allen. The Heat still want Marshall, but acquiring Zo makes another big man less of a need.

I know (hope) that they are not paying him to sit at home right now. Does anyone know how much he has lost so far from missing all those games since the trade?

Well, he went on the injured list right before he was traded b/c he needed his body to recouperate from all the pounding. He is not allowed to take aspirin or Ibuprofen or any anti-inflamatories because of his kidney (That's what led to his rare disease). Him reporting to Toronto was not required, they just added him to the trade to match salaries. They never really expected him to report as he was trying to get a buyout from the Nets to go back to Miami. Anyways, good to see that he will go back to Miami and hopefully finally go to the finals. Peace.

Yao - ShaQ finals, followed by Mutombo-Zo during intermission. How awesome is that. This was a nice countermove to try and stop us. But good god damn luck. This is our year.

We'll see how this goes. Hopefully Zo is truly resigned to a small role. Haslem has been really good on that squad, and Doleac was already a solid backup. I would think Marshall or Williams represent a better fit on the Heat than Mourning. They need to shore up their forwards, and I doubt Zo is going to help them there. I also worry how he'll play out in the locker room.

I remember (they also mentioned it on TNT) when Shaq used to try to get under Zo's skin. When Shaq was with the Magic, he used to call Zo the "4th best center in the State of Florida." He would name himself, of course, and then start naming off college centers. LOL

I never liked Zo, so it made me chuckle.

It's funny but they were neck and neck for Rookie of the year. I have been a Zo fan from his rookie season and have followed him his entire career. ZO has been underated his entire career. ZO never had the second "star" to help him get to the championship and never had great supporting cast. He and Riles took basically a CBA squad (over the hill dan majerle, tim hardaway, voshan lenard, pj brown...) to 50+ wins for several years including a 61 win team. If Zo had a Kobe, he would definetly have a title under his belt. Don't tell me Tim hardaway was that b/c although he was really good, his knees broke down come playoff time. Peace.

    UPDATE:
    http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/ESPNSports/story?id=491461

    Chad Ford
    ESPN Insider
Feb. 11 Alonzo Mourning's brief tenure with the Toronto Raptors will end this morning, Mourning's agent, Jeff Weschler, told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

"The Raptors have agreed to waive him," Weschler told Insider. "I think this is really a win-win for both Alonzo and the Raptors. Clearly, Alonzo wasn't in their long-term plans and Zo wanted the opportunity to explore his options with other teams."

In consideration for getting waived, Mourning agreed to a buyout on his contract. According to a source close to the negotiation, Mourning will receive roughly $10 million of the $15 million that the Raptors still owed him. The amount will be prorated, for cap purposes, over the next two seasons.

Mourning has played a total of 30 games under a contract that will end up paying him $17 million. That means that Mourning earned $566,666 per game under the contract.

So even though Mourning is giving up roughly $5 million to get out of his contract, his per-game total was the richest in NBA history.

Only three teams have the cap room, or trade exceptions, necessary to claim Mourning off waivers — the Bobcats, Rockets and Nets. It's unlikely that any of those teams will be willing to swallow the remaining $15 million Mourning has left on his contract.

When he clears waivers, which likely will happen Sunday, Mourning is free to sign with any team he chooses for a prorated share of the $1.1 million veterans minimum.

Weschler refused to substantiate talk that his client will immediately sign with the Miami Heat once he clears waivers.

"We haven't gotten that far yet," Weschler said. "We just wanted to clear up this situation first. Once he clears waivers, we will look at his options. Really, Zo still has to decide what he wants to do."

Keeping that disclaimer in mind, a source in Miami told Insider that the team would likely begin negotiations with Mourning once he clears waivers with an eye toward adding him to the team, and multiple sources said a deal could happen quickly.

If Mourning is healthy enough to play, his addition should provide some much needed depth up front for the Heat. Before leaving the Nets, Mourning was averaging 10.4 points per game, 7 rebounds per game and 2.3 blocks per game. The goal would be to have Mourning playing 10 to 15 minutes a night to give Shaq some much-needed rest going into the home stretch.

Zo was never underrated, he was considered the fifth best center behind Olajuwon, Robinson, Ewing, and Shaq. At lot of stars didn't have a second star on their team back then, not Ewing, or Robinson. I don't think you can say he and Kobe would be automatic champions because while he was very good, he wasn't as dominant as Shaq, and he wasn't as skilled as either Robinson or Olajuwon.

He was Pat Ewing lite, tough, very good defender, with a decent jump shot.
