Not totally, but they certainly helped.

In summary, Senior Al Queda detainee lied to the admin and told them Iraq and AQ were working together. Bush fell for it. The CIA and DIA had plenty of doubts, but the admin ignored them, and used his statements as a big part of the "Iraq is an immediate threat" war argument - even after they were told it was likely inaccurate.

I don't think there is anything that would have stopped Bush from going to war with Iraq. He was hell bent on this since 9/11 and even before then he was moving in that direction.

There are reports that we had the guy tortured or perhaps did it ourselves. He then told us this. It was what Bush wanted so he went with it, though the CIA and others believed it was inaccurate info. Just another part of the deceiving us into war.

It is true that Bush wanted to go to war against Iraq before this and was looking for an excuse.

"Major" -- This thread doesn't sound like your typical post. Typically you aren't nearly this partisan or inflammatory.

Can you answer me as to whether it is actually you posting, or if you lent your account to Rocketman95 so that he could enter the D&D? I have a STRONG suspicion that this is the case.

You should bend your mind towards something real, Trader_J, like the conspiracy hatched by this administration to get us into the war in Iraq, or the outing of Plame, or a host of other things they've done on the down low, in their dirty little show.

    Keep D&D Civil.

You may suspect it isn't Major posting under that account, but I have no doubt it is you posting under your name, because true to form, you fail to address any of the issues being discussed in this thread.

It is, actually, working out quite well for Al Queda. Imagine if the US was using the vast intelligence and military resources (not to mention $200 billion) consumed in Iraq the last two years focusing on AQ instead.

How exactly has AQ suffered in regards to the Iraq war? Granted, we've captured the "#2 AQ Iraq Leader" about 10 times now - a position that didn't even exist pre-war - but outside of that, how exactly have we hurt AQ in this process?

On the other side, we have inflamed world, and particularly Islam, opinion of the US as a result of the war. We also have consumed massive amounts of money and energy on the war. Not to mention the 2,000 US lives lost.

If one were to give credence to the theory that the intervention in Iraq has spurred democratic reform in Egypt and Lebanon - that hurts AQ. The bombings in Jordan appear to be driving a serious wedge between AQ and Muslims as well. The recent Pew poll (IIRC) suggests strongly that support/popularity for AQ in predominantly Muslim countries (with the exception of Pakistan I believe) has taken a drastic downturn since the intervention in Iraq. Whether that puts us 'net' up or down I'm not sure.
