How do you top the detonation of a nuclear bomb on American soil? How does Jack Bauer survive while being only 4 minutes away from ground zero? How reasonable was it that a nuke went off in the U.S.? I think my favorite TV show may have "jumped the shark" (as much as I hate that cliche term). Your thoughts?
I don't watch the show so I guess I didn't realize how addictive it is until we walked into a place last night and the "lady" who was working there barked "Can I help you?!" like we just walked into her house or something. When we walked over to where she was sitting a few minutes later we noticed that she was watching 24.
A. You show that there may be something worse in store - WW3 B. 4 Minutes = something like 12+ miles at that speed someone calculated, more than enough to be out of blast radius. Also, not all nukes are huge "Day After" city-killers. The wind was gonna blow SW too if you recall. C. How reasonable was it that 2 yrs ago a bunch of assholes would fly planes into our buildings & plot to unleash WMD on us. How reasonable is it now? D. I don't think it has jumped - though it got close to jumping when that cougar almost ate Kim.
Yeah, its like televised crack. My mom came up to me to ask an innocent question (What channel do I put the TV on to play Nintendo?) during the show and I snapped at her like I never did before... "Be quiet! I'm busy!" I didn't even realize what I said until the commercial break and I went to find out what she wanted.
I was hoping and hoping for that. I don't think there is a more annoying and frivolous character on TV than Kim. At least she showed some smarts by not taking that ride with the guy. Funny how a gun changes your attitude.
Note to self - kill drapg next time I see him for not putting some type of warning that there would be spoilers in his post, because I didn't watch the first season a couple weeks ago and was going to wait until my friend bought the second season on DVD to watch it.
I don't watch this show (partly because I don't want to get addicted to a television show that would have me arranging my Tuesdays around it), but what does "jump the shark" mean?
Jump the shark is a term used to highlight when a show has reached, and passed, its zenith. Meaning it's all downhill after the shark has been jumped. The term comes from "Happy Days." There was an episode where a waterskiing Fonzarelli literally jumped over a freaking shark in the water. Needless to say, there was nothing else that could happen on Happy Days after that that could top it.
Trust me, 24 has not jumped the shark. I'm sure there are more twists and jaw-dropping scenes in store for this season. Hopefully. Is it me or has 24 gotten a little predictable lately? Did you honestly think Jack was going to order the actual death of Saleed's children? Did you honestly think Jack was going to die in this past episode? SPOILER! The minute George strolled up the airport runway towards Jack, I knew he was destined to fly the plane. I mean, it just fit perfectly... which is not a good thing for 24. The pieces shouldn't fall into place so smoothly on this show. (This ain't Anakin in a Naboo fighter "accidentally" blowing up the enemy command ship.) There needs to be unpredictable elements and shock, like the death of Bauer's wife in season 1. That kind of plot twist makes the show a little more edgy and real. Hopefully, something totally shocking will occur (like the death of Kim "Ms. Magoo" Bauer). My shocking prediction: I feel the president's advisor (Ensign Ro!) will turn out to be bad, and that Sherry will turn out to be good (or something like that).
I wonder if they will ever mention the three countries that sponsored the bomb. Probably not, since it wouldn't be too PC. I wonder how they'll elect to handle that, though. VS... I think you're right about the predictability of the show lately. Seeing as how "24" has been picked up for a third season, we all knew Jack wasn't going to die. When George showed up, it became obvious how he was going to get out of that problem. However, there is still some mystery left. I still haven't figured out the issues between that new woman and the other girl at CTU (can't remember their names, one is the potential love interest for Tony). Than there is Sherry. I can't figure out what she's up to at all, or how she's so well connected in D.C. God I love this show!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think it has jumped the shark at all. I just love the way 24 keeps topping itself every week. I watched season 1 kinda sporadically and then caught up after FX did it's 24 hours of 24 marathon. I am hooked on Season 2. Kim and Mrs. Palmer are kinda hokey, but the torture of the head of the NSA and Salid Ali was awesome though! Who is the guy that calls Jack in the next episode and says that he knows that the recording of the three countries and Salid Ali is fake? Drapg, you got to put the ***spoilers*** somewhere though, I was reading this thread yesterday and I hadn't watched the episode yet! Speaking of torture - I hope that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is enjoying his! I wonder if the US guys in charge watch 24?
I think the guy with the info about the fake recording is the 7th Special Forces guy who killed the rest of his team.
Sorry man. I assumed the "jump the shark" in the title was ample warning that I was going to be talking about something that happened that night on 24. But I will put the word spoiler in titles from now on. Again, sorry man!
