Throughout Les’ tenure there have been some big moves. Every year we find a diamond in the rough and make a big move. In Les’ first year we made the pick up of Mario Elie. At the time it was huge. The following year we draft Robert Horry over Harold “Where am I” Minor. This pickup turned out to be fantastic. Although the Rocket organization was booed (I was at the Summit) it turned out to be a great pick. Then it was followed by Sam Cassell. The Alien played like a vet; many wanted Duke standout Thomas “I have not played in 5 years Hill.” The 94 season started off bright with 15 wins to start the season, but when things turned blue they pulled the trigger on a blockbuster deal bringing Sean Elliot here. This was a done deal with Bullard even practicing with the Pistons. Sean had problems with his heart so the non-trade worked out and we won a championship. 95 started off great, but when the going got tough, they pulled the San Valentines trade, trading defensive stopper Otis Thorpe for hometown legend Clyde Drexler. Again a championship was the prize. 96 was a good year, but when the Rockets got swept by the Sonics, (illegal defense the enitre series) they brought Hakeem help, and Charles Barkley came to town to roll over the Sonics in 7 games. (My personal favorite trade) That year we also brought in Matt Maloney, and Othela Harrington. When the next year came along, growing concern over the point guard and constant injuries to the big three brought us another trade. The trade that David Aldridege ruined. But again they proved that they are not scared. The following year was our biggest blunder acquiring Sub-par star #33 (Charles says he does not deserve a name). And last year, when during most of the summer the media bashed the Rockets for not doing anything, they draft Kenny Thomas and got Stevie Franchise in a blockbuster trade. They also rid themselves of the Cancer #33. Every year they do something big, if its via the draft or trade, they will pull someone in. We Rocket fans must be patient, but you know they will do it. So when we think there is nothing in the works, look at our history, something has to be brewing. They will do us right, and anyway it is fun to speculate. I am very proud to be a Rocket fan, and know this organization will do us right. It’s going to be a fun rebuild, and we will get there quicker than expected. If the cards fall the right way, partying on Richmond will be closer than we think!

Good job. However, it was Elliot's kidney problem, not his heart. Funny how he thought the Rockets got cold feet.

One kidney transplant later, I guess the Rockets' doctors knew what they were talking about.

My bad guys, I'll use a different word next time. heypartner, you are right, Cuttino was a great pickup. And if you look even deeper, our CBA players have been great too. Chucky Brown, Matt Maloney, Eldridge Recasner, Sam Mack, and there have been others. I have full confidence of the Rockets. I will admit though, the loss of Robert Barr last year really scared me. We still got two huge moves though.

At the time when Ellie was obtained it was like "Ellie who ?" yes , it did turn out to be big but at the time there was not much fanfare......

3pointer, you are correct from the fan point of view, but if you remember from the P.R. standpoint, they made it sound like it was one of our biggest pickups ever. Boy I would sure love to bring back the JYD, but he would not have a place here. A nice veteran forward would do fine here.....

Man, it doesn't seem like Les has been here since 1993....

I thought his wife changed the unis in his second year as owner.

Puff -- just an FYI... the Horry draft was 1992 so it didn't come after the Elie acquisition (1993)... the Horry draft was before Les took over.

I was at the Summit too -- memorable experience. When they said Robert Horry the place erupted... I was sitting in the fourth row (the chairs were set up on the court) and I was the first one to explode up off my chair... clearly visible on the news coverage that night. I hopefully still have it on tape somewhere.

Anyhow, I remember Steve Patterson coming on the big screen they had in the Summit and defending the pick and boos were raining down on him. Minor of course went to the Heat with the next pick and disappeared... Horry turned out pretty good.

The funny thing is I vividly remember this guy in front of me who I was talking to and telling him about how disappointed and stunned I was. He was from Washington -- big Bullets fan (Bullets drafted #6). He said, "You think you're disappointed... we passed on Walt Williams! (from Maryland) We drafted Tom Gugliotta! Tom Gugliotta?!?! Who the hell is Tom Gugliotta!?"
