I know he’s coming off ankle surgery and is still working his way back into shape. I just don’t understand why he rushed himself back when he clearly isn’t ready yet. We went through something similar last year with Adams. It took him a long time to get back into basketball shape and a lot of people lost patience with him. Eventually though he became a key piece for us. So the question is do we stay patient again or do we package Dorian Finney Smith with other guys and make a move that actually benefits the team?
He hasn't looked like an NBA player for a single second on the court with the Rockets. No wonder Pelinka didn't try to re-sign him. He knew that ankle was cooked
I mean, you answered yourself in the first sentence of the the thread. Can you just chill and wait for him to get 10 games in? When veteran players take long periods off, other than a few exceptions there's a lot of rust. Things look bad. Movements don't look fluid. Hand-eye coordination isn't sharp. You can practice forever, that's not going to make getting into game-shape obsolete. We have to go through this part. You really think they signed him to a 4 year contract and were going to make their final decision on him 5 games into returning???????????? OP you're a good poster, this take is beneath you.
Do you guys remember back in 2018, when we lost M’ba-a-moute to a shoulder injury? And when he came back, during the 2nd round series vs Jazz and later in the wcf vs Warriors, he couldn’t make even open layups due to that injury? So DFS. I mean yeah, is a good defender, but if he’s ankle still bothering him and limiting his ability on the offense (where ho doesn’t need to create but you do want him hitting open 3’s and make some drives from time to time), we’ll have serious problems once playoffs starts.
I quite like DFS as a player and think as he gets back into shape he'll be great for us... but that nickname is hilarious and can be used every time he messes up
That’s why it’s tricky because you could package him with other players to bring in someone who actually helps. And you also have to keep in mind KD is 37, so how long do you really want to wait? And what if DFS never becomes the player we thought he would be for us..
Yeah, I was heartbroken, and that’s why it’s a gamble. What if he never really gets back to himself, or what if this is just who he is after the ankle surgery? Either way, the clock is ticking. Kevin Durant isn’t young anymore.
Dude, you can give the guy 10 games before asking any of these questions. It won't be past the trade deadline. Why are you panicking so early on this? If WE can see he's cooked this early, then every GM can see it too. Why would we get anything better than him back? You think we're going to fool some GM who's first question is going to be: "why are they trading him so soon? pull up the film, run a scouting report and arrange a medical". Btw even in the worst case scenario if he's cooked and we don't trade him, then we'll trade him this summer for roughly the same return. It means for this season we'll "only" have these players able to guard the same position: Amen Thompson Tari Eason Josh Okogie Jabari Smith I'm being a brother here: you're WAAAAAAAAAAAY too early with this take and you're assuming every single thing goes as wrong as it can possibly go. It's not tricky at all dude. Wait 10 games. Then throw those 10 games in the garbage and judge him on the games after that. At 15 minutes per game and the back up to the back up at the wing position, he's not hurting us in any meaningful way.
Who’s talking about making a move now? I never said that. We have until Feb 5 to decide. There are also players out there getting limited minutes like Malik Monk, who we could match salary for if we packaged DFS and Clint. Not saying we have to make that trade, but I’m sure there’s something out there that could help the team.
I think DFS is a good player. I expected him to suck for a month after coming back from major surgery. I’m not gonna worry unless he still looks bad by February. The only thing I’m frustrated with is why we chose to sign an old injured guy over other available options like NAW. But I’ll bet DFS rounds into form over the next month. Unless he’s still hurt. If he’s still hurt this acquisition has been a real failure.
I was really confused by this statement you made more than a month before the trade deadline: "So the question is do we stay patient again or do we package Dorian Finney Smith with other guys and make a move that actually benefits the team?"
