Declared ineligible by NCAA http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsext...ectid=93&articleid=20091007_93_0_Oklaho571110
Looks like had contact with an agent. Oklahoma State All-America wide receiver Dez Bryant has been ruled ineligible because of a violation of an NCAA rule, according to a press release from the school. OSU has begun the process of applying to the NCAA on his behalf for reinstatement, according to the school. According to the press release: "This incident does not involve anyone associated with the OSU football or athletic department staffs, any employee of the university, alumni, donors, or any third-party affiliated with OSU.
Unbelievable. NCAA has got to be one of the most worthless governing bodies in sports today. Right up there with the IOC and Bud Selig.
As a former D-I athlete myself, it's your responsibility to become aware of and adhere to the MANY (and sometimes ludicrous) rules governed by the NCAA. It's why you have football coaches. It's why each school has a compliance department. They're there for a reason and it's really your own fault for not taking the necessary steps to cover yourself. He'll still get paid so at least he's not injured, getting arrested or something.
HUGE loss for OSU. With OU having 2 losses and Texas going to Stillwater, OSU had a legit shot at contending for the Big 12 Championship game and a BCS game.
This will hurt UH as OSU was their best victory. Now it will look weaker and weaker. Hurts UT and the Big 12 also.
If Texas goes undefeated and wins the BIG 12 title they will play in the Rose Bowl regardless. The NCAA has to make up for last years fiasco. Guns Up! lol
It'd be nice if it had the chance to hurt UH, but since they're not a BCS team, it doesn't really matter.
That's why I hate the NCAA. So being untruthful/unsure about a meeting with a non OSU NFL player rules him ineligible while getting egregiously paid by agents and driving an Escalade around town will not only be shoved under the carpet but only "discovered" until after the player leaves? If this was USC (cough) or Oklahoma (cough) then this would just be a minor thing. I think Dez probably doesn't know about this "rule" anyways and Deion has been known to interacted to many a college football stars. But its the fact that Dez had to "lie" that started all of this. Knowing him, he probably just wasn't sure so he had to answer "No." Yea I'm pissed, dissappointed and downtrodden right now.
