If you are a fan. Which players would you rather have in your team. Even though Detroit is winning championships, I like the fact we have 2 exciting players in T-MAc and YAo. I know winning championships are exciting, but winning it with exciting players is even more rewarding. Like when we won it with Hakeem. We can look back to our championships and appreciate how great it was to watch Hakeem play. I got the same feeling this year with T-MAc and Yao and I want more. Very excited about our future.
Kind of a pointless thread but i'll tell ya one thing, playing in the Leastern Conference sure would be nice.
I still think that the 94 team was only exciting to watch because they were the Rockets. The 95 team was more entertaining, IMO, because of both the style of play and the fact that we were underdogs in every playoffs series. BTW, I'd rather win championships, personally. Playoffs and Finals games are entertaining for fans of the team regardless of what the style of play is like.
Titles between 2003-2005 for the Pistons: Maybe 2 Titles between 2005-2015 for the Rockets: Maybe 6+ (crosses fingers)
Yao is on the verge of becoming a dominant center. He is showing more consistently and for longer periods sheer domination in games. It's called getting in the zone, and when he gets focused, he sure as heck can dominate. He has lapses, but they last less time and are becoming more and more infrequent. Not to say he is the force of a Duncan or a Shaq; but Yao is closing the bridge that seperated those guys from himself. And the X-Factor is McGrady who will almost always be the best player on the floor, therefore, a McGrady and Yao combo is getting closer and closer to be as dominating a force in the NBA that has been. Don't count the championships yet, but they are waiting for the Rockets to start plucking them by the numbers!!
Pistons roster over Rockets as-is. Fairly even if the Rockets can get younger around TM and YM. Larry Brown or Jeff Van Gundy? Not even funny.
With the current roster it's a no brainer because the Pistons have a title under thier belt. However, the Pistons are peaking right now, we haven't gotten there yet, it will come.
Do you think they're going to stop there, though? Pistons are still a young team. Billups is 28, Hamilton's 27, Prince is 25, Ben and Sheed are both 30. And Darko's 19! What happens if/when he develops after Larry Brown leaves? Pistons have at least 3 more years of contending in their future.
And what happens when they bring in another coach. Will they keep that defensive togetherness and harmony that has led them to two straight Finals appearances. Say what you will about Larry Brown's wandering eye, he's still a superb head coach. Let's see what this next guy has got.
First, the only reason they went to the Finals is because of the Leastern Conference. Detroit would not come out of the West. Second, they can't maintain their current roster. They have Prince and Wallace who are looking to get paid.
The first Rocket championship was considered the epitomey of ugly ball. Some say it almost killed the NBA and required rule changes to liven it back up. Of course nobody around here felt that way.
It doen't matter what conference Detroit came out of, the fact is that they won. Not to mention I am so happy they stomped all over the Lakers, I hope Kobe never wins another ring, but preventing Karl "the Flopper" Malone from winning a ring was oooh sooo sweeeet!!
Not to mention Detroit would have beeten Dallas and the Suns, something the Rockets should have done and will do next year. I'd much rather win Championships but having Yao and T-Mac is pretty sweet, we just need the right players around them.
