over 90% voting democratic. [rquoter]Detroit has more registered voters than it has residents Gee - no kidding. I'm shocked. Shocked I say! Well - in actuality - no. No I'm not. This is the modus operindi in Democrat hegemonies. People that don't exist, the dead, and family pets overwhelmingly vote Democrat you know! From the freep this morning is this headline: No-confidence vote on voter rolls. The only shocking part of the article is that it is written by one very liberal Rochelle Riley. In any case, some snippets: Detroit election officials confirmed Monday what an analysis of census and population records shows: The city has more registered voters than it has residents over the voting age of 18. He estimates that Detroit's population is about 853,000, which includes 603,000 people over 18 -- 30,000 fewer than the city reported as its total of registered voters. "Even if you had 100% voter registration, which we know we don't have, you could not have numbers that high," he said. "Nationally, 67.6% of Americans are registered to vote. For African Americans, it's 60.9%." Metzger estimates that Detroit's voter registration is closer to 422,000. And you know what that means, don't you? Lt. Gov. John Cherry just picked up more than 200,000 votes for 2010! Woohoo! How about them apples? If they can just find more non-voter voters, he'll be a shoe-in! (and we'll be screwed) Riley is correct that the problem can be traced back to the 1993 National Voter Registration Act, which took effect in 1995, (passed by a Democrat Congress and signed by Democrat Bill Clinton)and requires local officials to wait two federal election cycles before purging their voter rolls. Funny how this seems to only benefit one party... UPDATE: RightMichigan has some statistics: Here are a few more numbers to consider, from the top of the ticket... 2008 General Election results-DEM: 96.93% GOP: 2.65% 2006 General Election results-DEM: 95.05% GOP: 4.33% 2004 General Election results-DEM: 93.61% GOP: 5.93% I'll say it again... 211,000 phantom voters. 211,000 phantom voters in a city that has spent the last two election cycles going more than 95/5 for the Left. I've mentioned before that Detroit is the most liberal city when judged on voting record. (Detroit Resident, Urban Hunter, Our Symbol) How's that been working out for ya so far??? [/rquoter]
and how many of these "phantom" registered voters actually voted? I think we're going to have to have some sort of Special-Education seminar for basso so that he understands the registration/voting distinction. It seems to be a very difficult concept for him to grasp. He appears to be not alone in suffering this particular disorder.
Why does this blog refer to statistics on the number of registered voters and then act like there are that many invalid votes. Does this blogger really think that all those extra registrations lead to extra votes? Do you?
The answer is apparently yes to both, which is why I think these special education seminars are a good idea.
I don't care how many actually voted, b/c what's done is done, but it is definitely something that needs to be looked at and corrected.
Actually I agree with this. It's too bad the implications in the blog and basso's post obscure the real (but less serious) problem.
Are you suggesting that there were no votes cast by phantom voters? if so, could you provide evidence to support this contention? MGIA
The answer to how many can be shown to have actually voted, thus far, is zero - because nonexistent people with fake names do not show up at the polls to cast a vote, they don't exist. I agree though, something has to be done. Good, hardworking organizations like ACORN, which are the ultimate victims of this fraud, is frequently taken in by this scam by unscrupulous workers, which distracts it from the good work it does in spreading democracy to forgotten communities. That reminds me, it's about time I make another donation to that wonderful organization.
The burden is on you, Clouseau. If you're going to claim voting fraud, you should be able to cite a fraudulent vote cast. Provide evidence of one that was. Not 200,000 - JUST A SINGLE ONE. The Bush DOJ spent years and millions of dollars investigating this. They couldn't find any. Can you? Can you at least contrast the ACTUAL VOTES CAST in Detroit with the population? Is it 200,000 more? At least then you could provide some circumstantial evidence. Can you even do that? Or are you too much of an assclown to do a few minutes of research? Note: this is lesson 1 of your special ed seminar
I think voter registration is handled too locally. Essentially, it looks like they have a lot of people who moved out of Detroit who aren't purged yet and have probably registered elsewhere. If they could get a good enough handle on their data that they could purge a voter from one roll when they registered on another, there'd be no problem. Or (best scenario, but people would worry about their privacy, fraud, states' rights, etc), a single federal registration with a database that tracked what elections you're allowed to vote in.
Got other things to do; that's why I asked the question.... oh, that's right you're too important to answer questions! Anyone else?
very, very lazy web research from B-Bob: population in Detroit has fallen approximately 200,000 from the year 2000 to 2007. Lots of things can lead to bad voter registration lists (like having people make $ per new registered voter.) But having one of the most inefficient and crumbling city governments in the nation (world?) update voter registrations? That's expecting too much. Man that prof's blog is really poorly written. Embarrassing for the university, IMO. As Sam says in lesson #1 (which is a repeat of every Acorn!11!1 thread), find us a single fraudulent vote, and I'll get concerned.
I did some lazy research, too... I actually clicked on the blog, then clicked the link to the original article on freep.com. Turns out the article is about how Detroit wants to purge it's voter rolls but can't do it as quickly as they'd like because of a specific law. The article has nothing to do with invalid votes, it's just about the problem of getting the reported numbers right. I guess the blogger (and apparently basso) were just confused about the difference. giddyup, to roughly answer your question, people leave the city but they can't be taken off the voter rolls for two years. There are also other problems with fraudulent voter registration (that may or may not be happening here), but those are generally people trying to get out of work they are being to do by creating fake registrations. The fake registrations don't actually lead to fake votes. At this point the story is just about how to accurately reflect the number of eligible and registered voters. There hasn't been any evidence presented to indicate that the extra registrations are sinister attempts to bolster vote counts.
