55% approval rating is horrible for a War- Time president.Let alone mediocre for ANY president.

Did you even read the full report?

"The improvement in Bush's ratings comes mainly from Democrats, who remain highly critical of the president, but show a 12-point improvement in ratings from mid-September (16%) to now (28%). Republicans' and independents' ratings of Bush have held steady during that time. "

Fascinating that Bush has gained approval of anyone considering everything that is going on..

Wouldn't you have thought that Bush's job approval would have gone down as opposed to up considering the current climate?

Democrats have been hammering Bush on a daily basis on everything, and yet his approval rises among the same Democrat base...

Unbelievably amazing. It must signal a giant groundswell in support for Bush from democratic party. Yes, that is surely what is happening.

"Bush's ratings on three specific issues -- the economy, foreign affairs, and Iraq -- are less positive than his overall job rating, with at least as many Americans disapproving as approving of Bush on all three. At the same time that Bush's overall job rating increased three percentage points from early September (from 52% to 55%), his ratings on these three issues all declined slightly. As a result, his ratings on the economy and foreign affairs are the most negative of his presidency. His rating on Iraq, already at a term low in September, is now lower still.

Forty-two percent of Americans approve of Bush's handling of the economy, compared with steady ratings in the mid-40s from July through September. Currently, 55% of Americans disapprove of Bush's handling of the economy. Bush's current economic ratings are the worst of his presidency. "

These numbers are solidly above where Bill Clinton's were at the same time in his presidency.

Not quite, but it is surprising Bush's numbers haven't plummeted to their appropriate depths.

Wouldn't that be neat if a little angel formed on top by Christmas time?

Although I would hesitate to use the words "solidly above" , Bush II's approval ratings are slightly higher than Clinton's were at the same time in his Presidency. Look at the last bright pink square and compare it to the baby blue circle. It's about 5% higher for Bush just before "moment 3.0 in their regime" . (Guess everybody can't be like Ike...) :D

    great graph Mulder

I find it interesting that Reagen's numbers were consistantly lower or the same level as Clinton's throughout each guy's terms

but Clinton has a stigma of not being a good president by some while Reagen is raised to hero status by some..

Quit comparing Bush to Reagan and Clinton. Where were G.W.H. Bush's ratings at this time ? (seriously where were they) Reagan and Clinton didnt have a war for people to rally around like both Bush's have had, so it's pretty dumb to compare them with Bush right now.

Right, just like Clinton was one of the best presidents to some, and others thought Reagan was terrible.

and Bush didn't inherit an economy that everyone could rally around, either...that's a trade-off at best. the economy has been slow...and the economy during the Clinton administration was fantastic. soooooo....i don't this as being unfair to Clinton at all.

Billy Boy ? Uh no, I thought Clinton was a decent President, but I would have voted for Bob Dole in 96' . When the candidates do not differ much in terms of policies, I like my candidate to have some experience in the military if they are going to control it.

Anyways, that wasnt the point . Bush sr.'s rating in 92' was 93% apparently. So Bush's approval right now is far below his fathers , and guess what? He LOST his re-election bid....

So pee your pants in joy all you want about Bush being more "popular" than Clinton, but who cares? Clinton won twice with the POPULAR VOTE, something Bush has yet to do.
