Sucks. What is Denver thinking? I understand Gallinari/Fields aren't better options.. but I just don't see the franchise player in Favors. His numbers this year are extremely underwhelming and he's only getting 20MPG on a bad team. When he was coming out, his measurements were often compared to Dwight Howard. Dwight was good enough to start for the Magic right away out of high school and pulled down 12PPG/10RPG while getting 1.7 blocks in 33 minutes his rookie year. Favors, one year removed from Georgia Tech, started off the year on the bench and was only moved to the starting lineup when the Nets continued to suck. In his rookie year, he's getting 6PPG/5.3RPG while getting .7 blocks per game in 20 minutes. I think it's time to take a step down from the Dwight Howard comparisons. Who do you think Favors will eventually develop into? Right now, I'm not seeing a superstar.
Right now, he's a rookie. Didn't know clutchfans and their jaded opinions extended to the rest of the league. The man is a ROOKIE at a big man position. How about you give the man a chance.
Is Favors the best young piece you can get? Or is the NJ trade more about the 1st round picks than getting Derrick Favors? I think there a lot of young players out there I might rather opt for over Derrick Favors. So what? Blake Griffin is a rookie; so is DeMarcus Cousins. Both of them have been MUCH better than Favors has. I don't need three years to see if a player has star potential. Right now, I just don't see it in Favors -- just like I don't see it in Turner either.
Favors might be the best they can get and thats only if Melo decides he wants to sign the extension. ( I don't think NJ does it w/o this). They are really at the point where they almost have to trade him for something instead of getting nothing.
Yeah, I get that. I just think Derrick Favors has been extremely overrated throughout this whole Melo saga. For instance, quotes from an 'anonymous' GM several months ago more or less stated that no team could trump NJ because of Favors as an asset. Once their owner pulled back, that was supposedly going to allow more teams to be competitive with their offers. Simple question: why the hell is Favors commanding that kind of value?! Completely undeserved and overrated. Not a good way to compare, IMO. Per 36/40 assumes you will be just as efficient in extended minutes, which is usually not the case (Lowry). If Favors was good enough to log big minutes, he would be. Kris Humphries should not be good enough to keep your "next Dwight Howard" grounded.
He won't ever be Dwight Howard, but he doesn't have to be to be a lot better than Gallinari and/or Felton. It's about talent and potential, which Favors certainly has. http://twitter.com/DraftExpress/status/37602596105625600
He's young, developing and has very little help or veterans to learn from. Guy may not end up being special but to early to tell for me. On the trade, he is the best talent they could have gotten for Melo knowing the parameters.
Relax his 19 yrs old, and receiving very limited playing time in NJ, so don't be surprised by the numbers... He was extensively scouted, and he has every physical tool to become an elite player. You just have to be patient with the guy...
I'm capable of looking at a player and analyzing whether he has the skills/fire to be a great player in this league. Which is.. the same thing every GM/front office in the league does when evaluating players. The only reason that people are cutting Favors slack is because of where he was drafted; that third pick label screams Potential and Patience. I just think anyone who is expecting a star from Favors will ultimately be disappointed.
I dont remember the DH comparison...it's one thing to say their measurements are equal or similar, and another to actually say they can be similar players. He's more like an Amar'e than Dwight. If he was playing the same minutes Amar'e got as a rook, they'd have identical numbers. Another comparison, maybe even more accurate, is Mcdyess. He also had similar numbers his rookie year(as amar'e).
Its obvious Favours was the best big from the last draft. Monroe and Davis are playing better now. Udoh is having quite an impact for the Warriors as well. But I think in another 2 years Favours will outshine the latter 3.
Garnett's rookie numbers are comparable to Favor's rookie year. Bynum, Jermaine O'Neal, Tyson Chandler, Kendrick Perkins, Kevin Garnett, Shawn Kemp, etc. Teen post players in their rookie season don't usually put up monster numbers to be the next Dwight Howard. The big men usually don't get going until about 21, give or take a year.
