The props are best part now. Everything else has been done, I don't want to just see tweaks on old dunks.
Dude takes thing too seriously. It sucks that some players get robbed but it's the freakin Dunk Contest! Who cares!? It's for the fans and the props help make it more entertaining.
personally i don't mind a little props...e.g. jumping over something, passing teammate... but all the superman stuff, getting you mum to bring down the ball, coaches.....seems to me that its no longer a dunk contest, but rather a props contest...see who has the best props.
Maybe a create a prop round(s), and have the earlier rounds for traditional dunking. I agree it has the potential to get lame and out of control, but so far there have been very good dunks with props lately. (Dwight's Superman dunk, Griffins Choir and jumping over a car contest winner.) <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/7k1b8s1VfMQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I still like the tradtional dunks in this years contest as well though: <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3MdS2_l_oro" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Derozen had the best first round dunks I've seen in a long time, the guy should have definitely went to the final round.
I dont get the "everything has been done" argument. No it hasn't. There's variations to different dunks and several that have been tried elsewhere outside the NBA. I'm sure there's unique ones to think of as well. These guys just aren't creative enough. Props turn simple or more basic dunks into "50" dunks. Half the time they're not even used correctly. Dwight had a phone booth and yet didn't even change inside of it. They need to do away with it and let them brainstorm some more. It would help to not have an elimination round, as those guys probably have great dunks that they're saving for the second round, which will never be seen. Just add up all the scores and declare a winner.
And i forgot to add, stop inviting centers into the contest. The reason they need props is because their dunks will never look that great alone, since at their size theylook like teens dunking on a little tikes goal.
Griffin would have won, props or no props. I don't blame DeRozan, though. Let Blake do the contest by himself next season if no one else stands a chance.
Derozan deserved it over Javale. There's a difference between creative and just plain idiotic. "Two balls? Three balls? Four balls?"
For Dwight's dunk: that wasn't even a dunk because he threw the ball into the hoop. For Griffin's dunk: you have to jump that high anyways to dunk the ball so it's not that impressive.
I agree that Derozan has a right to be mad but at the same time in last year's dunk contest they used no props and it was the worst one ive ever seen. This year's was pretty good IMO from all 4 dunkers
no the players do they get a bonus if they win, one from Sprite and sometimes it could be a separate one from the team if its written into their contract. Derozan was robbed big time it should have been him and JaVale in the finals. I dont mind having a higher rim or two rims or jumping over a person but all the other stuff...the car, the kid and toy, choir, secret agent mom and all that stuff needs to go. Its a dunk competition not a reality show thing. I am not saying it was "rigged" for Griffin but when his off the backboard dunk was not nearly as impressive as Derozan's through the legs dunk and still got a higher score something is wrong. Add in that Griffin changed what his original dunk was going to be and then made it the off the backboard windmill makes it even worse that Derozan only got a 44 on that first dunk.
