I know Paul and Williams have been discussed but based on the recent success and the fact that Roy won rookie of the year last year, should bring him into discussion with future great Pg's.
Deron Williams is definitely behind the other two. Brandon Roy is more versatile because you can pair him with another PG in the backcourt and he also uses his size very well on both ends of the floor. But Roy's injuries bother me. I'd have to go with Chris Paul. If Roy didn't have his injury history it would be tough to decide.
GP FG% FT% 3PTM PTS REB AST ST BLK TO Chris Paul 33 .481 .879 1.1 21.9 3.8 10.2 2.9 0.0 2.5 Deron Williams 36 .513 .775 1.0 19.1 2.9 9.0 1.1 0.3 3.5 Brandon Roy 35 .448 .775 0.9 18.7 4.6 5.7 0.9 0.2 1.9 How is Deron Williams definitely behind both of them? He's been playing great lately, esp. w/ that 20 assist game he had the other night. But to answer the question, I'd take Chris Paul.
Both Paul and Roy have missed games with injuries. That's what happens to players that spend most of their game driving to the basket. Just ask Wade. Williams is a bigger guard who can play in the low block similarly to B. Davis. He drives to the basket like the other two, but not as frequent. I'm not going to say that Williams is the best player of the three, but for the long run, I think Williams would be a more consistent PG. He's a more traditional PG that has been taught by one of the best coaches in the NBA, but he also has a post game that has started to be more common with larger PG's playing today.
Roy is not really a full time point guard. He plays occasional PG for the Blazers, but I don't think his body would hold up to full time PG duties. I'd put Paul above Williams. And to think, the Blazers had their choice of Paul or Williams in the draft and they traded down to get Martel Webster.
Paul is the best one out of these three but Williams and Roy, it s going to be hard to decide between these two. I say Roy cuz it s only his 2nd year and he leads his team. He take his team to a next level. Thought Williams have been struggling this year. If he was the same Williams as the playoffs, then, I would have say him.
I love Roy's versatility, and he'll be an all-star soon enough. But Chris Paul is going to go down as an all-time great. I don't think this one is even close. It's Chris Paul.
Paul and Roy provide hope and leadership to teams that desperately needed it. I don't think Williams could do the same for a bad team. Especially with defenses keying on him. I used to think Paul/Williams were equal. But imagine if you swapped Paul and Williams teams...
Chris Paul is my favorite non Rocket player. He's awesome. Does anyone else listen to NPR's Wait, Wait...Chris Paul was a guest on the Not My Job segment and was hilarious. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=17688461
Deron Williams killed in last year's playoffs and took his team to the WCF. This year, Paul has performed better. But until he can prove to do the same, I'd still give it to Williams. Paul will have his shot at the playoffs this year. We'll see.
I would take either or all of them...but if I could only take one player it would be Roy based on the DD rule... "When discussing equally talented players always take the taller one" DD
I'm watching the Hornets/Sonics game tonight and CP3's talent is apparent but something about him irritates me. He whines alot to the refs that he should get all the calls his way, reminds me of a single child spoiled brat. He's crafty and kinda sneaky, right when Watts caught an inbound pass and turned to dribble up the court CP snuck in front of him and Watts had no room to dribble upcourt and ran over CP, got called for a charge...my contention with that is the dribbler has to have room to make his move first. CP was on the floor calling a travel like a little cocky biatch. This reminds me of one time he just slowly jogged upcourt one time against the Rockets and knew that Yao would run over him, Yao got called for the charge. I'm not against gamesmanship and getting an edge wherever you can, but the he ways goes about it makes me want to wish karma happens to him, like someone giving an elbow upside his head next time he tries a sneaky move like I mentioned. Again, I recognize his talent but I'm not a fan.
Deron Williams for me. How many playoff games have the other two won? Williams led his team to the WCF in his second season and he played quite well against Baron Davis and Tony Parker. I think ultimately Roy will be figured out and slowed by putting athletic, long defenders on him and Paul will simply break down from being an undersized PG. Ten years from now Deron Williams will be know as the best of the three. Too big, too strong and he just gets better under pressure.
I'd take Brandon Roy. Maybe I'm being a Portland homer but the guy is mature, a leader and so versatile. He's also very easy to like. I like the fact that he's not the most athletic or talented but he gets it done and gets it done well.
One more thing, this is a good topic/debate since it looks like a lot of people have differing picks although you really can't go wrong with any of the 3.
