If you were given a choice between these two who would you choose to start and build your franchise around? I know this is probably the unpopular opinion but I would choose Williams. I think he's probably the best true point guard in the NBA. Rose is talented for sure but in terms of a being a more complete player I think that is Williams. I also think he's better than CP3. Melo is a great player but I don't think he makes his teammates better. Williams gives you the scoring, and the assist and makes the players around him better. He's also a decent rebounder for a PG. Great trade by the net's! I personally think they are better off with Williams over Melo.
Elite PGs are harder to come by than elite scorers in my opinion. Factor in the fact that Deron is arguably the most complete PG in the league and can score when necessary, and it's a no-brainer to me.
Thay have both pretty much had the same success in the league and playoffs. I would have to go Deron Williams because what he does is on par with Chris Paul.
On a single-star team doomed to mediocrity, Carmelo Anthony can probably prop up their performance single-handedly better than Deron Williams could. On a multi-star team contending for a championship, Deron Williams could contribute better and achieve more synergy with another star to get a championship than Anthony could.
Deron is anyday.. he is just to good for the position he plays.. too big against many pg's. One of the better shooters as PG plus got great passing skills... He makes others better.. I think NJ should be happy to get him rather than Melo.. cheaper as in giving less.. but may be even more effective. He can make Brooks Lopez a superstar
Elite PG v. Elite scorer. It is an interesting debate. This league is a PG league tho, for that reason alone, I gotta go with Deron.
It depends on the structure of the team, but I would rather have Anthony, simply because of his amazing post game. I don't think he was being utilized very well in Denver, and he could be a much more efficient scorer if he took advantage of the mismatch he presents to most sf's in the post. Just imagine Bud trying to guard him on the low block. Ew. Deron Williams would be better if the team had a post up center or power forward that didn't have a mid range jumper, or preferred to be on the block instead of on the outside, such as the Nets with Brook Lopez. Great trade for NJ, because Brook Lopez will greatly benefit from D-Will being there. Also great trade for NY, because Carmelo helps them much more than DWill would, just because Amare is more of a face-up score. Overall the situations for both teams ended up being better, even though NJ "struck out" on getting Melo.
