First off, I was never a huge animal/pet lover and sometimes made fun of people for considering pets a part of the family (regretfully so). About 6 months ago my GF got a 2 week old female beagle that is amazingly cute and I have really taken to and vice versa. She would actually cry when I would leave to go home. So my gf had to go out of town for work this week so I took the dog to my parents home (where i live) to take care of. On tuesday morning she escaped from the backyard (dug her way under the gate). I searched for about 2 hours last night and took off from work to post signs on about 100 doors in my neigborhood and at mailboxes. It's now about 2 days since she's missing and starting to lose hope as no calls have come in. It's really depressing and don't know what to do. I contacted various shelters with no luck. Unfortunately, we had not put tags on her. My GF to say the least is devastated as am I. Now I understand why they call them man's best friend. I am starting to lose hope and turned to here to see if there are similar stories with HAPPY ENDINGS or should I just give up hope of finding her? Anyways, hope she turns up! This is a long shot but can't hurt...If anyone lives in the Missouri City area SW Houston) close to Murphy Rd and Lexington Blvd and comes across a young beagle please let me know! Thanks.
I would call the Pound first thing tomorrow. I am under the impression that they only keep dogs for three days. Secondly I'd call Beagle Rescue (you'll have to Google a number for the Houston branch) as they try to adopt Beagle's from the pound. Good luck. We have two Beagles.
That's sad.. Hope this helps.. http://www.houstonbeaglerescue.org/ I have been thinking of adopting a mini beagle sometime in the next year of so.. I hope you find her..
I have two beagles, this story made me really sad. Poor pup. They really are great dogs, but they are escape artists. You can't leave them unattended for an extended period of time unless your fence is VERY secure. They are hounds and will follow their noses above all else. If they catch a scent and there is a way out, they will find it. My dogs managed to get out on a few occassions at our old house, but each time we luckily found them in our neighborhood within a few minutes. Check with the Houston Beagle rescue link that was posted. I adopted one of my beagles from a rescue, and he's such an awesome dog. The rescue group can post information and pics of your dog on their site which will help in the search. Good luck in finding her, I feel for ya man. Hang in there.
Rivaldo2181 Sorry to hear about your gf dog missing. I thought I would share a similar story with a happy ending that might help. I had just finished college and was working full time in a small accounting firm at the same time living with 5 roomates who were still in college. I had a terrier mix dog for about six months named Smokey that was the house dog. One week I had to go out of town on an audit and asked my roomates to look after Smokey for me which everyone agreed to. Needless to say that when I returned home for my trip Smokey had got out of the house and was gone. I felt so hurt at the time as he had grown on me so much and was truly a part of my life that brought happiness. My fiance at the time was in New Jersey getting our wedding arrangements prepared and she too was devastated as Smokey was going to live with us after we got married. I also immediately drove around looking for Smokey and contacted the shelters to see if he had turned up but no luck. For days I kept driving around to neighborhoods asking people if they had seen him but no one had. I started to lose hope after a few days because there was no sign of him. A week later after Smokey had escaped the house I was in bed sleeping when all of a sudden one of my roomates ran into my room with good ol Smokey right behind him. My roomate said he was watching TV and heard a noise outside by the door so when he checked it was Smokey finding his way home. I was so excited to see him again. Till this day I have no idea where he went but it was a truly amazing sign of how special dogs can be. Here it was a week after he got away from the house and somehow found his way home. Smokey is still with me and my wife today. He is going to be 5 this month and I am still so thankful that he returned home and has been a part of my family since. So don't just give up hope yet. Hopefully your beagle will find that scent back home to you and into your and your gf's life.
Similar situation happened to my friend's dog about a month ago. They ended up calling the pound and sure enough he was there. Now he's afraid to leave the house. And they live out in MO City too. Check out the pound if you haven't already and hopefully it all turns out fine.
I promise I am not involved. I have no issues with any Texas Beagles. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=100123&highlight=beagle
Beagles are definitely escape artists. We had one for about 13 years when I was growing up. My sister had 3 since, including a couple of li'l Elizabethans (bred small to fit in saddle pouches for the hunt...they would let'm loose when the prey would crawl in a log). My sister's last beagle escaped from my brother-in-law before they were married. Never found the dog, but they got married anyway, so kinda a good ending. Good Luck.
About 3 or 4 years ago someone opened the backgate and my dog ran out while everyone was gone. We looked for her for hours, day after day. We called various pounds, etc... and nothing turned up. About 4 days after the fact we were driving down a main street when my brother happened to look over and see a dog trying to eat out of a dumpster. After doing a double take we realized it was our dog. I had given up hope and was absolutely shocked to find her. Keep looking because you just never know...
Harrisment, Are they more likely to be escape artists when they are younger. Our 3 year old beagle comes back when it gets dark. and generally follows us around very well. When our beagle was a puppy, it was more difficult.
My beagles are 4 and 5. I actually just caught the 4 year old trying to dig out yesterday while I was home for lunch, but he's definitely the troublemaker of the two. There was one day recently though that I came home from work and saw our front door open. I'd left in a hurry and guess it didn't close all the way. I was shocked to see both dogs just standing at the front door, although it was raining. They were both wet so I guess they ran out and had some fun and said screw it once the rain started coming down.
Thanks for all the feedback. I contacted the city's animal shelter as well as another one but no luck so far. I literally went door to door in the neigborhood and placed signs on over 90 of them. I also placed them all over mailboxes. My fear is that whoever finds her will keep her because she is so cute and sweet. As far as the howling and barking, this one doesn't do either yet. I guess she's still young. Man, it's heartbreaking, I am praying that she'll find her way back or someone with a heart will find her and call. I am also going to try to call the vets in the area to see if anyone has brought one in. I'll keep you updated.
Hopeful news! It's a long shot but better than no news! I contacted various vet clinics in the area and two of them had a report from a woman about 10 minutes from my area. She reported a beagle she found the same day mine dissappeared. I called and left a message with her and now can only wait. Please God let it be her!
Do you live next door to mateo? In all seriousness, you can only do the best you can and don't take it too hard. The dog was obviously trying to find his way home. I hope he turns up.
Haha, no i don't live next to him, i think he lives in NY right? I live in Mo. city, close to sugar land and stafford. My beagle doesn't howl and bark (yet anyways).
