    Just heard on the radio.

Denver players are refusing to go to practice and are considering not playing tonite against Miami because they want a new head coach.

    funny stuff.

It has to be an empty threat. If they actually refused to play, en masse, that would be about the most bush thing I've ever heard of. None of them would ever live it down.

I think the situation is perhaps being misinterpreted.

The "strike" consisted of the players skipping practice. The question may be whether Issel's reaction will be to bench them for the game (a normal punishment for blowing off practice).

I guess Posey's quote ("We don't know if we are going to play or not. We'll be there for shoot-around, and we'll see what goes on.") could be read both ways -- either he thinks they might be benched/suspended, or the players want Issel to apologize before they'll play.

Posey or Lafrentz would look great in Rockets pinstripes. Walt Williams wouldn't miss practices [IMG].

This is very sad, and I feel sorry for the Nuggets fans. The team has plenty of talent, but obviously no chemistry/leader. A good team must have a team whose players, particularly the better ones, trust, and follow the coach. That's why he's paid to be the coach, and the players are paid to be players.

I can't see Mutumbo helping them too much. Him and Van Exel on the same team doesn't seem to look right.

For grins, I tried to work out a deal. RealGM says after Dec. 16,

    Tariq Abdul-Wahad
    Raef Lafrentz
    Mark Strickland
    Calbert Cheney
    George McCloud
    James Posey
    Terry Davis
    Ryan Bowen

for Mutumbo would work. 8 for 1, nice bench.
(The Clippers could trade their entire roster for Garnett and Dean Garrett)

I hear it is too freaking cold with this northerner on us, and they are jealous that Chicago is completely shutdown and might get to stay home from work.

Well, I'm going to the "game" tonight. Should be interesting. I've never heard of anything like this.

My thoughts? Look for Issel the coach to be fired, Issel the GM to stay on, and the Nuggets to trade Raef. Can you say LaFrentz + Posey (whince) + others for Mutombo? You will be.

Weird. Yeah, I'll bet they get a new coach pretty soon and Issel will stick to GMing. But N4, where would be the sense in trading for Mutombo? I wouldn't be too surprised if they shipped off Posey and Lafrentz, but I don't know why Denver would want such an old center. Also, I doubt that's enough compensation for Atlanta.

I think Swopa may well be right that Posey was not saying they were considering a boycott of the game, but that they knew the punishment for skipping practice was to not play in the game. Though this story about them skipping just because they were tired is -- in the light of Posey's comments -- whitewash (or is that hogwash?).

This says more about Issel really than the players. It would be one thing if one player freaked out. This was the entire team.

George McCloud said that they may seem like whiners, but "what if your boss was yelling at you all the time?"

I think it bears noting that no one likes being yelled at and some can take it less than others. I know that if a boss had EVER yelled at me, I don't care how much he was paying me, I probably would've first had to be phyically restrained and second RAN (not walked) out of that place as fast as possible.

There is something to be said for respecting those in authority, but that authority must not only command respect, it must respond in kind. If Issel is trying to coach these guys in the same way he was coached, it isn't going to work. People just don't put up with that like they used to. It is just a fact.
