Very short part of the article that mentions Spree's agent saying Spree loves to play for coaches like "Jeff Van Gundy".

Who wants to bet the Rockets were one of the 3 teams that contacted Spree?

    Spree eyes reunion

The agent for Minnesota free-agent swingman Latrell Sprewell said his client would welcome rejoining Marcus Camby, his former New York Knicks teammate. However, the Nuggets are not one of the three teams that have contacted Sprewell.

"His best friend is out there, Marcus Camby, and of course George Karl is out there, a great coach," agent Bob Gist said. "He always loves coaches he can learn from, like (Jeff) Van Gundy."

Although Sprewell played small forward for the Timberwolves, who are unlikely to pursue him, Gist said his client loves to play two-guard, his more likely position in Denver.

    for the LLE, sure.

although the way teams are paying for SG's this summer we might not have enough money for him.

    redd - $90+
    allen - $70+
    houghs - $70+
    simmons - $47M

I hope the Rockets don't screw this up...Spree is okay, but only if the price is right. No more than two years on the contract, and only for the veterans minimum or something very close to it. I have a bad feeling that we are going to blow the MLE on Sprewell and sign him for 3 or 4 years, which would be a disaster.

    Spree would be a mistake...

His speed is still there-he can run the floor, but does not have the quick break out off the dribble he once had.

I am not even factoring in the attitude. Surely we do not waste our mid level on him...

    Spree is not championship material.

I don't agree with that. That being said, I kind of wonder if the Rockets were one of the teams that contacted him. He said he liked playing for coaches like Van Gundy, but that sounded more like a way to praise Karl then wanting to play for the Rockets.

I would say it's a safe bet that the Rockets were one of the 3 teams. Spree is still a good player, he's definitely not the same Spree, but he is still capable of putting up 16ppg.

I think we've contacted him soley because of JVG. He knows what Spree would bring and we know JVG loves his vets. Spree had some of his most productive years under JVG and were able to help bring the Knicks to the Finals.

IF Spree were to sign w/ Denver, I wonder where Mobley will end up?

I think you're right. I misread one of the lines, I thought it said that Denver was one of the three teams that contacted Spree but it says they WEREN'T one of the teams that contacted him.

See, that's my question as well. I know it's a foolish hope to keep hoping Mobley ends up back here, but I want it to happen. I realize that it's not really my BRAIN making this call, and much more my heart, but I don't care. I love Cat.

Man, if we sign Spree, we're in trouble.

Well, no, HE'S in trouble, in that case. Because he'd have to sign for the MLE. And you can't feed your family on the MLE.

Spree would have to get a second job, you know?

I think Spree is our last option if we strike out on some of the more desirable free agents. I trust JVG not to overpay.

Don't worry Rox, there are a ton of Wal-Marts and Foodaramas around town. I'm not trying to put down those stores, but they do have one stop shopping at the lowest prices. :D

Well when Spree shoots at people and refuses help from an organization that's trying to get him re-instated, we'll talk.

After we land Swift with the MLE all we can offer Spree is 2 years/ 3.3 mil LLE with a player option. He can't be insulted by it because that is all we can do.

If he takes it great, if not, we continue to shop for another SG/SF with the LLE or an expiring contract.

Say NO to Sprewell and YES to DerMarr Johnson with the LLE. He is 25, 6-9 and a better defender than the soon to be 35 year old Sprewell

    Name-------------eFG%-3pteFG%--Passing--Reb--Blocks---Hands--OPER---DPER--NetPER---OnCrt---OffCrt--NetCrt---Overall
    DerMarr Johnson--57.0%---49.3%----2.7----12.4---1.6-----10.6---15.5----13.9-----1.6------5.7------0.3-----5.4-----3.5
    Latrell Sprewell---45.0%---42.3%----2.9----10.4---1.0-----12.4---14.6----15.8-----(1.2)----(0.3)-----4.1-----4.4 ----2.8

This is obviously something that, if we WANT Spree, we can probably get him. His value is low and he is an elder in the league.

I think JVG can handle him and I trust JVG. Maybe I havent seen good basketball (until this year) in awhile and I am high on him, but I think he knows what he can get out of Spree and knows he can control him.
