2005-06 Bibby: 196 FGA / 481 min = 20.4 FGA/48 B. Davis: 213 FGA / 496 min = 20.6/48 Cassell: 170 FGA / 418 min = 19.5 FGA/48 Yep, Sammy...you shoot a lot less than Bibby and Davis. But then you're entitled since over your career you've shot .45.7% to Bibby's 44.9.
Sam Cassell has two championship rings. the first one he got being a major contributor to a team as a rookie. He shoots a great shooting percentage for a point guard. He gets assists. He's clutch, he helped Garnett the only time he ever advanced in the playoffs. Now he's helping the clippers be one of the best teams in the west. He's right, he gets too much criticism and not enough respect.
I don't have any problem with Sam's game. He plays within himself very very well which is the secret to his great success. But he's old and I'm concerned about him being injured. I don't blame a team for not giving him a long term contract. But the man has had a stellar career. I'll never forget what he did for us in the 1994 playoffs.
Over Cassell's career, he's shot 12.8 times per game, in 30.5 minutes. Bibby averages 13.5, but plays over six minutes a game more. Adjusted to 40 minutes a game, that's 16.8 FGA's a game. Bibby averages 14.8. Baron Davis shoots 16 times every 40 minutes, so for every minute that the three play, Sam shoots the most. Sorry, Sam. Still one of the most underrated players of the last ten years.
Yup, that about sums up how I feel too, Sam. The 90s was basketball at its finest, as far as I am concerned. The NBA has become far too soft for my own taste with all the new rules that have been in place the last few years.
