As the Nuggets' front office works the phones, new destinations for Carmelo Anthony keep popping up. Should the Nuggets trade their all-star forward, the Houston Rockets would be in the mix, said an NBA source with knowledge of what is being discussed.

New Jersey is believed to be a strong contender too, should the Nets choose to go hard after Melo.

That's because of the locale, which would be enticing for Anthony and his wife, New York native La La Vazquez, and because the Brooklyn- bound Nets would have several attractive trading chips, such as draft picks and expiring contracts — and possibly a young low-post player, such as starter Brook Lopez or rookie Derrick Favors.

As for the Rockets, the source said they are open to exploring many options — even trading Kevin Martin, who averaged 20.6 points last season.

The Nuggets are considering trading Anthony because of their inability to sign him to a long-term contract.

Anthony becomes a free agent after the 2010-11 season. The Nuggets have offered him a three-year, $65 million contract extension.

No one in the Nuggets' front office would comment Tuesday on Anthony's situation.

The Nuggets appear willing to be patient, seeing what offers come their way and understanding that teams could potentially offer more building blocks for the future than have been discussed so far.

Two destinations for Anthony that have been mentioned often, the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks, are out of the mix for now, according to The New York Times, because the Bulls aren't willing to deal big man Joakim Noah and the Knicks just don't have much to trade.

Melo and his wife have spent ample time in Los Angeles this summer, and it's understood that La La Land is a desirable destination for La La, who loves the spotlight.

But an NBA source said the Clippers' Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon, their most valuable young trading chips, won't be moved. So that would make it difficult for the Clippers to make a deal.

It's also hard to believe the Nuggets would trade their all-star forward to the Lakers, the team the Nuggets are trying to knock off at the top of the Western Conference.

lol these newspapers have absolutely nothing new to report. The Nuggets need to hurry up and trade him somewhere. I'm sick of getting online and turning on ESPN hoping to see Carmelo in a Rockets uniform. Whether he comes to Houston or not, I'm just ready to move on instead of keeping my hopes up.

If the articles on Melo have some accuracy to their info doesn't it seem like most teams in the NBA, so far, are not willing to go all out for the trade. If Melo is truly a "superstar' why is it that the teams who are rumored to be interested don't want to trade their valuable assets for him? Do the teams know something about Melo that most of us fans don't know?

I am really surprised at the luke warm response by teams to the rumored Melo trade. I am not sure if Melo's value is low or other teams are not sure about Denver's real intention re trading Melo.

Not alot of teams can afford to give up any assets anyways.

Outside of Favors and Lopez, what would be left on NJ roster?

CHI is already a contender without Melo, so they really don't have a sense of urgency and plus finding a good big man is harder to find than a great wing.

NY really wants Melo, but don't have any viable assets to give up and they don't have any picks as well.

Outside of Griffin and Gordon, the Clippers have no future and their roster would suck by giving up both of them.

We are the only team supposedly on his list that has various assets to give up without gutting our team.

What you said, plus teams are hesitant because they need assurance from Carmelo that he will sign that extension. They don't wanna give up young potential and picks for a one-year rental of Melo.

seriously... it IS a slow off season right now and melo is the biggest name in trade talks and the writer has bills he needs to pay; is it really necessary to harrass him?

May as well not read any basketball site until the season starts

I thought the mention that Bulls are NOT willing to trade Noah is new. I don't think I had heard anywhere that this was definite.
