Report: Deng expected to be sidelined for 'weeks'

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ESPN.com news services

Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng will be "shut down" for "a significant period of time" because of his sore left Achilles tendon, interim coach Jim Boylan said Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Deng, the team's second-leading scorer, missed three games with the same injury earlier this month and sat out the Bulls' victory over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday when it flared up again.

Boylan wouldn't guess as to the length of Deng's absence, but said it will be weeks, not days, according to the Tribune.

The Bulls are already without guard Chris Duhon, who is out with a bone bruise in his left knee.

Deng is averaging 17.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Bulls (16-24). His 47.8 percent field goal shooting percentage is the best among the Bulls' regulars.

"Since he's had the injury it's kind of stayed with him," Boylan said Saturday. "It gets better on occasion and he can play, and then it comes back.

"It's something we have not been able to get a full handle on, so it's a problem. But we have so many games, and not a lot of time to rest him."

This might sound a little messed up but who cares, I know I dont.

Anyone here actually glad he got injured after turning down that 60 million in the offseason? Heres to hoping that he gets significantly less then the 60 mil he turned down.

Turning down the $60 million was idiotic and his remorse from that decision helped throw his game into the tank at the start of the season. I like Deng a lot but he gets zero sympathy from me. Sometimes when you roll the dice they come up snake eyes. I'm not glad he's hurt but I wish the Bulls had traded him for something worthwhile before this happened.

Please, you make it sound like he has a career ending injury. He will bounce back and get paid. He's one of the best up and coming forwards in the game and somebody will pay him the max or close to it.

Why? He's going to get paid. This isn't exactly microfracture surgery we're talking about.

Deng is one guy I had high expectations for in fantasy basketball that didn't pan out. Assumed his ppg, fg%, ft%, spg, blks, and rpg would all improve and he would be valued in the Josh Howard range.

    Not so much...
Thank god I was right about Rudy Gay.

Welp...there goes my fantasy season. Between him, T-Mac, TJ Ford, Randy Foye, and Darko, I've had just about the most cursed fantasy season in the history of time itself. That's after losing 6 guys to injury in fantasy football earlier. I must have really upset the fantasy Gods bad. F**k.

I really hate fantasy basketball. Not because I suck at it (haven't even tried it) but because every time someone gets injured, regardless how serious the injury is, somebody will come in and b**** about their fantasy team. Yes, that's really important in this situation. Who the f cares?

Should have packaged him for Kobe when they had the chance...

Deng is decent, but he isn't a superstar or going to be one, and the Bulls are too blind to see that.

Kobe didn't want to go to Chicago without Deng being there.

I don't think this injury affects his market value much, if at all. I think he can still get a $60 mil offer somewhere.

That said, his play this year clearly indicates that he's not good enough for a max extension like he wanted. So it's still a bad decision for him to leave the money on the table, in hindsight. Of course, if this injury turns out to be more serious, or something a player will be affected by long term... then that decision would turn out to be really stupid.

Looks like you cursed yourself drafting that team. Ouch.
