What alternatives would the Democrats have after the convention to change their candidate if such a situation were necessary due to: 1) Their chosen candidate falling precipitously in the polls due to a newly revealed issue 2) Their candidate withdrawing from the race I suppose whichever of Hillary/Obama does not win could run as a third party(?) should they get on the ballot in enough states by the deadline... but my question is whether the Democrats could put up a new candidate if it appears certain that their nominated candidate simply can not win. Thoughts?
I don't know if this applies anywhere else, but Texas has a "sore-loser" law. If a candidate loses a primary, they can't run in the general election.
Hmm...I think there really isin't anything that can make an entire party throw the white flag. Corruption kickbacks, having the appearance and speaking manner of an illiterate or being unable to hold a clear position on most anything hasn't stopped anyone in the past.
Looking at the recent stories about McCain and his lackluster campaign, perhaps you would be better served asking those questions about the Republican Party.
Let us say Obama is the Dems' nominee, and then a news story broke that would make it virtually impossible for him to win an election. Could the Dems, prior to the General Election, replace him on the ballot, should he step down?
Is this the wife hates whitey story? [edit] But I am curious as to what you would consider virtually impossible for him to win an election?
Or how about a scalpel? I mean, Jr did pay for an abortion before it was legal so I guess he shouldn't have been elected. Oh wait! He wasn't!
I just love how many Dems talk as though they already had this thing won. McCain is likely to win both Texas and Florida. Last week, a Democratic strategist in California stated in a radio interview that he is concerned that McCain could win California. I don't think that will happen, but if a Democratic strategist isn't thinking that this thing is in the bag, why should anybody else?
California could change, once this is all said and done and everything that needs to be public is made public...
The GOP has been in near total control for 8 years. 80% of the country think we are going in the wrong direction. McCain is a near one issue candidate who supports the war that a number of Bush's closest advisers think he lied us into. Can the GOP replace McCain?
The Democrats have been in control of Congress in the last years... Why not nominate a conservative democrat, like McCain, rather than a left-wing idealogue, like Obama? Isn't most of the country centrist/moderate in their views, like McCain?
TJ you're so clueless about why this guy is winning its not funny, its sad. it has nothing to do with policy
