What a horrible thing to say while we are at war.

    - Emboldens the enemy
    - Demoralizes our troops who are laying it on the line
    - Furthers the enemy's goal -- which is to hope for a liberal uprising in America to undermine support and force legislative action (the terrorists' only hope to win)
    - Undermines our efforts to win

How can any reasonable person conclude that the Democrats support the troops? HOW CAN THEY? They've been insinuating this for years! Every report regarding the war from the liberals is negative. Every negative is highlighted. No positives are highlighted. That is supporting the troops? Forcing a retreat date on our military is supporting the troops? Wanting to cut off funding is supporting the troops? What world are these people living in!?!?

Iraq war is 'lost': US Democrat leader
    Apr 19 02:45 PM US/Eastern

The war in Iraq "is lost" and a US troop surge is failing to bring peace to the country, the leader of the Democratic majority in the US Congress, Harry Reid, said Thursday.

"I believe ... that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week," Reid told journalists.

Reid said he had delivered the same message to US President George W. Bush on Wednesday, when the US president met with senior lawmakers to discuss how to end a standoff over an emergency war funding bill.

"I know I was the odd guy out at the White House, but I told him at least what he needed to hear ... I believe the war at this stage can only be won diplomatically, politically and economically."

Congress is seeking to tie funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to a timetable to withdraw US troops from Iraq next year, but Bush has vowed to veto any such bill and no breakthrough was reported from the White House talks.

Bush on Thursday was addressing an Ohio town hall meeting and defending the war on terror launched in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

"It is the most solemn duty of our country, is to protect our country from harm," Bush told the invited audience in Tipp, Ohio.

"A lesson learned was that -- at least in my opinion -- that in order to protect us, we must aggressively pursue the enemy and defeat them elsewhere so that we do not have to face them here."

But Reid drew a parallel with former US president Lyndon Johnson who decided to deploy more troops in Vietnam some 40 years ago when 24,000 US troops had already been killed.

"Johnson did not want a war loss on his watch, so he surged in Vietnam. After the surge was over, we added 34,000 to the 24,000 who died in Vietnam," Reid said.

The comments came a day after bombers killed more than 200 people in a slew of car bombings in Baghdad, dealing a savage blow to the US security plan which aims to deploy an extra 30,000 troops in the country to quell sectarian unrest.

US Defense Secretary Robert Gates fly into Iraq Thursday on an unannounced visit for talks with top US military commanders there.

He met with General David Petraeus, chief of coalition forces in Iraq, his deputy Lieutenant Colonel Ray Odierno and Admiral William Fallon, chief of US forces in the Middle East.

Actually, I think he is saying that George W. Bush lost the war. It turns out that large numbers of the troops agree with Mr. Reid.

Did the Democrats give up after Hitler achieved many early successes throughout Europe? Were they at least rooting him on like they are the extremists today?

thanks - i actually was looking for any articles on his comments and cant find any. it was only a few days ago that he said it - odd.

i am amused that tradertexx, who supports policies which the majority of the troops are against, would lecture others on "supporting the troops".

the majority of the troops are against this war which you, bush and about 12 other people are still cheerleading for. half of the troops who have actually served in iraq and afghanistan say the iraq war in unwinnable. are they siding with the enemy too? 60% say it was a mistake to invade in the first place. furthermore, you support torture, which the majority of the troops are against and intelligence experts say is not an effective means of gathering info. we dont need lectures from someone who proudly states that they would pay money to watch people get their heads dunked in urine, so next time save it. :p

I have never seen so many people so happy when their own country has lost a "war". Their own political agenda is so much more important than the thousands and thousands of lives that have been sacrificed. You people piss on the graves of those who have died for this country. And people wonder why people go off on shooting rampages.

I've never seen so many people that are willing to pretend they are winning a war and let soldiers continue to die just because they can't admit they were wrong and messed up. You people piss on the graves of those who have died for this country. And people wonder why people go off on shooting rampages.

Dude, the entire reason people oppose this war and opposed it before it started is because the loss of life was and is unnecessary. Telling the people that have tried hardest to prevent it that they are pissing on those graves is really, really wrong.

Who is happy at the thousands dead and thousands more injured? Who is happy with wasted treasure we've spent in Iraq? Who's happy with the incompetence that put Americans at risk? If anyone's happy they're nuts, as are the people who think there are a bunch of people celebrating this. It's the greatest strategic blunder ever and the most tragic mistake this country has made since at least making slaves 3/5 of a person. It's so bad the only options are really bad and horrendous. Bush wants the latter, most sane Americans want something else... this is not a happy choice.

You have got to be kidding. Only the Bush Administration ran us into a war of choice, ignored the warnings, and failed to plan for anything beyond the capture of Bagdhad beause they worried about selling the war and came to believe their own crap. Only the Bush administration failed to support the troops with little things, like armor. Only the Bush Administration passed several times on getting Zarqawi so they could claim Al-Q was operational in Iraq and thus help move the political chain to their side. Only the Bush administration lied about Tillman's death and lied about Lynch for political purposes. Only the Bush Administrattion took advantage of 9-11 to browbeat political opponents. Only the Bush administration is delaying making any kind of rational decision on Iraq because they think they can escape the political fallout of this failure if it's never admitted by the people who got us into this thing. And you have the gall to sanctimoniously declare that people against the Bush administration have an agenda more important than the lives that have been through this meatgrinder. Ugh. The agenda is to stop this rogue administration from sacrificing anyone else anymore.

The real Space Ghost is cool, you're just nonsensical.

The problem is that it is NOT A ****ING WAR !!!!!!

There is no military battleground. Our troops are not fighting a war, they are police in a Hatfield vs McCoy city.

Bring em home, and let Iraq find it's own course.
