This is an asinine concept that the new rules brought in place. The freethrow taken after the 2nd "delay" causes the game to slow down even more then players chucking the ball to the refs. This rule just seems silly and it already caused the Rockets to lose a game. (It was the first game against the Pelicans in pre-season, yes it was pre-season but still...). The league should do away with this concept.

I like the rule. Rockets run fast breaks off of made baskets.

I agree. The rule is not in place because the NBA is worried about the games being too long. The rule is in place so that the opposing team will not attempt to knock the ball out of bounds to set up down court.

Refs will probably get lazy about calling it within a few weeks.

I LOVE this rule. Now slow teams can't try to slow the game down

A delay of game call with over 23 minutes left in the game which the Rockets were winning by 7 points (after the made FT) caused them to lose the game? Or was it the second with more than 11 minutes left and them still winning by 7 which caused them to lose the game? Seriously?

I like the new emphasis on calling delay of game. So sick of defensive players grabbing the ball and playing around with it after a made basket. Not only slows the game down, but it also seems a bit like taunting or showboating to play around with the ball after you score.

Just saying Rockets lost by 1, delay of game calls and Dwight arguing them gave the Pelicans 4 freethrows. Just saying. Plus in the long haul, it actually takes more time to shoot the freethrow then to just play on.

Not sure if you read any of the posts above, but it's there to ensure that the defensive team won't purposefully delay possessions of the offensive team, which effectively gives the defense more time to set up a half court defense.

This rule benefits the Rockets more than most teams in the NBA so I'm all for it. The Rockets often like to score quickly after a made basket if possible.

Wasn`t the rule before that you had to get rid of the ball in a hurry? I´ve almost never seen a real delay before, and when it happened it was called.

The thing that is stupid about the new rule is, that a lot of players touch the ball instinctly, when they are under the basket. What about a dunk, where the player gets hit by the ball in the air? The rule should be, that no player is allowed to hit the ball away or pick it up.

That rule helps the Rockets because we keep a fast pace. The reason players pass the ball to refs in the first place is to slow down their opponent to buy time for their defense. Of course we want to penalize that.

You act like the purpose is to give out techs. The techs are a side effect. The goal is to train players not to do that crap, which is definitely a positive outcome.

Be patient with it. And if you can't, take comfort in the fact the NBA probably can't either, they'll give up on it by Thanksgiving if past preseason officiating focuses are any indication. But I rather hope they stick it out.
