Deke will only finger-wagging infront of the spectators or fans according to ESPN commentator John Barry on the Rockets team. it's a vintage trademark that can not take away from Dekembe, but his got to do it infront of the fans! Atleast we still going to crack on it! :D :D

I'm guessing he got a technical because he finger-wagged on the road. It could be perceived as taunting the opposing team's home crowd.

Seriously, though, the NBA needs to lighten up.

If Mutombo can be disciplined by the league for his "inappropriate" finger motion, would they be able to discipline Rafer for his inappropriate shooting motion?

Everyone hates it besides us. I mean, "if you seriously think his finger wagging is funny, then you're not a real ____ fan."

I wouldn't be surprised if the NBA made the behavior control rules too tight knowing they'd be repealed just so they'd keep more or less in the middle in the future. Can you imagine players like Rasheed without the power of the technical?

What's offensive anyway? Anyone yelling "yeah!"? Skipping? Make everyone act as if they'd just done something bad. When you dunk, shake your head in shame.

I thinking taunting should be allowed. It's part of the fun.

He can't taunt other players so that is why the finger wagging has to be directed to the crowd.

yeah i dont know why taunting isn't allowed. the fear for the league might be that taunting leads to aggression which can lead to violence. but since the league comes down so hard on violence anyways, i dont think banning taunts really helps that much. plus, players get away with taunts all the time, it seems random whenever the refs blow the whistle on a particular taunt.

The Ts Deke has picked up have all come on the road haven't they? The refs should know that this is Deke's trademark and should penalize him for it, he is an elder stateman of the game any way

Which is why a few years back there was a discussion among the league officials about whether or not to stop Mutombo from doing so. In the end they compromised and made it so that it will only be allowed if Mutombo did it to the crowd, and not to any opposing player on the court, which will then be seen as taunting and an automatic technical.
