Was it just for the matchup tonight or is Rick Adelmen slowly working Deke into the rotation to prepare for the playoffs?

Matchup. Dhoward is a very traditional center, perfect for Mutombo. It's also by chance we are facing the magic and are close the postseason.

Im sure Mutumbo can bring it on anytime. He has years of experience. I doubt not even playing tonight would affect his playoff play.

i think the answer is a little of both.

RA is working him back into the rotation, but for certain match ups only (shaq, dwight, etc...

Definitely a match-up move. The only time we see Deke is against the Suns and the Magic. What does this tell you?

I would go with both too. In the playoffs we are likely to face more good bigs so Deke might be needed some and its good to get him some minutes before we get there.

I wouldn't call Howard a traditional center unless you think Shaq is traditional. Howard has few of the traditional center attributes, especially offensively.

Howard is about traditional as you are going to get when it comes to the Center position.

I would say mostly for defense; Chuck Hayes defends PFs much better than Centers

nah, Howard's skill sets and physical abilities are all for PFs except for the fact that he cant do anything offensively like shooting midrange jumper or face the basket offense except dunking the ball and little hook shot. its just that he has the advantage on most of the teams bc hes too strong n quick for his size. otherwise he doesnt have advantage against most of other true centers in the league, in fact, Brook Lopez n Al Jefferson are more of traditional centers than Howard...proves r that when he goes against traditional centers like yao n shaq hes stats drop, u dont see a significant change in his stats against Kevin Garnett or wallace

I want to add that it's also giving time for Yao to rest. It was a good move by RA and have Yao rest up.

You must not know what a traditional center is. Howard doesn't really have a hook shot and only gets basket's because he is just more athletic than anyone he faces.

If you think Howard is a center like Hakeem, Ewing, Malone, Robinson, Vlade ... etc. then you don't know the game of basketball.

    Matchup...

I love the way Deke came in tonight in the 3rd, and immediately forced D-Ho to change his shot.

Deke is amazing for a 64 year old. :D

Amen. Deke plays like a man still in his 40s!

I think we should just keep him on the roster indefinitely; let him challenge Yao in practice, be a vocal team leader, and situational player til he dies of old age in a couple of years...

    Deke is my hero.

I vote for retiring his number when he finally calls quits.

1st off I didn't say Howard was like Hakeem,Ewing,Malone,Robinson, or Vlade

When I say traditional Center I mean he's a center that Deke will matchup against unlike a guy like Okur or Boozer unless Yao is hurt.

I'm talking in terms of who Deke can be used against. Howard is young and he's developing an offensive game. He was raw coming out of high school. In today's I consider him a traditional Center in terms of how the big man game is changing.

probably because Adelman didn't want to give Landry the assignment of guarding DHoward his first game back.

Everyone making jokes about how Deke is older than what he really is listed (I've seen a handful that can at least be taken that way) need to respect Deke's wishes that those jokes stop.

I think he was putting Deke in the game to "warm him up" for game 7 of our first round series.
We'll end up playing the Jazz, and Boozer will miss a last second shot to tie game 7, Deke will grab the rebound, flare his elbows and then collapse onto the court sobbing as the full time siren blows.
Cameras will get a closeup of him clutching the ball to his chest and rolling on the floor with tears in his eyes.

Or was that when the (8) Nuggets beat the (1) Sonics back in 1994?
