Last night around 10. Walked in to the bar area & sat down while waiting for a takeout order. Watched a few minuts of the 76ers game. Yao's dad there as well. Oh, the food was good and our waitress was hot.
Me and my wife went there on our last trip to Houston, pretty good food, IMHO, didn't see any players though
How would you rate their food compared to other Chinese restaraunts like PF Changs and Hunan Star? Just curious. I've thought about going there.
decently priced considering the big portions, i guess. the food was definitely not too authentic, which i think is somewhat their aim. i mean, when we asked for fortune cookies, they were kinda hesitant to give it to us because they were trying to "break the cliche." wasn't too bad. i say give it a try.
The food at Yao's is pretty good. My husband and I took my sister and my parents there for my sister's birthday a few weeks ago and we all really liked it. The service was great but the appetizers however weren't all that fabulous. We ordered Phoenix Wings, their version of Buffalo wings I guess, and I hate to say it but they sucked! The cooked spring rolls were good though.
Exactly... and hardly authentic. If you want real chinese food, go to the Bellaire chinatown in Houston. If you're at Yao's restaraunt, just go down gessner, make a right at bellaire, and you're there. The BEST food on earth.
See, we loved the Phoenix Wings... To each their own. Also loved the fact that they offered both brown & steamed rice - like Chang's - but tasted better than Chang's. BEing a fan of Gen. Tso's chicken, I was impressed by the fact that at Yao's it was huge pieces of white meat & was sauteed, rather than tiny dark meat pieces battered & fried at other places... I liked it. A bit pricey. Definitely be a fun place to watch a Rox game, eat & drink on a weekend. The formal dining room area would lull me to sleep though. Yeah - hot waitress - not to mention a STEADY stream of hot asian women walking in...
Wow, lots of people in this thread dissing PF Chang's. I think the food there is excellent. Pricey, but excellent.
After his meal there with Yao and Ewing, Deke apparently likes the food. MUTOMBO: That's what I'm talking about. Yao, next week I'm bringing my wife and kids, and we're going to eat like this. [...] MUTOMBO: All the food's good. The chicken is the bomb. The coconut prawns, too. The Mongolian beef is my favorite. Tell your mommy everything is good. [Mutombo flashes two thumbs-up.] MUTOMBO: [To Ewing] I'm sorry you don't eat chicken. I feel very sorry for you. [...] MUTOMBO: I'm so full too. Somebody may have to drive me home. YAO: Keep eating. You can stay here all night. Since we're on the Chinese food subject, anyone know of a place on the North-ish side that makes really good Chinese curry chicken? And not that Indian or Thai crap with a gallon of coconut milk in the sauce, either. The best place for curry that I knew closed down a few months ago and now I'm stuck with getting it from freaking Yank Sing acroos the street. Theirs is acceptable, but nothing to write home about (too much dark meat). I'm dyin' over heah! Help!
I must concur on the waitress talk. All the waitress' there are super hot. Went there last night with the girlfriend and got into a little bit of trouble for staring too long at our waitress. Anyway, I dig Yao's resurant. The helpings are large enough for two. Plus, unlike many Asian resteraunts Ive been too there's some diversity in the staff. They had some Latin waiters and an African-American Hostess.
PF Changs is good but hardly anything i would call authentic. It's another restaurant that dilutes the food for an "American's Taste" . From what y'all are saying, I will have to stop by there some day. I think the real test, of ANY restaurant, is how well they cook a couple of months down the road. Everything might be good now, but later on when business picks up and quality starts to become a lesser worry.......
Actually, a couple of my friends like to go to PF Changs because they don't have to get Chinese food there.
You can go anywhere for non-Chinese food. Why PF Chang's then? I don't really have a problem with the food at PF Chang's. It's alright; nothing spectacular. I just don't like the ambience. If I want Chinese food, I want it at a real Chinese restaurant, not a stiff, pricy joint where they don't have Chinese menus.
one suggestion for you lam bo the chinese buffet on westheimer. they have very good curry chicken in my opinion. another is rice bowl by my place on west bellfort and fondren....great curry chicken. its a really small place though so dont blink or you might miss it
I am assuming the hot waitresses are in the bar area, correct? I would go there except I don't drink, so it beats the purpose.
