deke NEEDS TO START!!! OR ATLEAST PLAY WHEN IT COUNTS!!!!! HE IS A BIGGER ATRIBUTE THEN HOWARD ANYWAY! WE LOOK GREAT!
keeping his minutes down is what allows him to be effective in the first place. he's doing great tonight, but he is 36 and we have an all-world center already.. starting him at the 4 would be hard to do everynight.. it really depends on the situation and matchup. he is an excellent complimentary player, i hope he continues to be.
we need deke to come off the bench when yao's not bringing it. i like it fine just the way it is now. we need a good backup center, not a matchup disaster when he starts against, say, KG...
please stop this kind of knee-reaction post after a game! Deke is perfect off the bench. But I do think JVG can try some twin towers when opponent play two big men.
I thought spoon did pretty well tonight. I would rather have Deke coming off the bench. Otherwise we would be too small if both Yao and Deke goes to bench.
I agree that the Rockets play more EFFICIENT with Deke in the lineup, but we are still a harder team to beat with Yao on the floor/starting. I think that we keep Deke backing up Yao, we will be fine. I think it's just that Deke moves faster than Yao....Yao is pretty slow. But you can't fault him for being 7'6".
The only way Deke starts is if he can beat Juwon Howard one-on-one. After all... to be the man, you have to beat the man.
Deke plays great but if he starts logging huge mins. it'll taper off, he is perfect coming off the bench and is too slow to cover the 4, see the Minny game.
I'm in favor of starting Deke. Yao can come off the bench and still play the majority of the minutes. It's just that Yao cannot be counted on to stay out of foul trouble. That's why he should play when his man (this only applies to people Yao has trouble handling) is on the bench. BUT we don't have that luxury right now, do we? In the playoffs, however, I'd like to see Yao and Deke on the floor together for about 15-20 mpg total. Championships are won with defense and big men, or so say the powers that be in the NBA. That kind of combo has to work well for us.
