http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28005680/?GT1=43001 Deer gets revenge after hunter shoots him The animal appeared dead but rose up and attacked the man SEDALIA, Mo. - A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life. The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots. Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood. So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.
deserved it. 240 pound game got hit TWICE with a freaking .270 and still alive. They should refuse to ever give this loser a hunting license again.
i immediately thought of this deer hunter(Do NOT watch if you haven't seen the movie): <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/G5ENPlaowMQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/G5ENPlaowMQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> damn, that's a jacked up movie.

That's funny. Remind me to also use something other than a .270 if I ever go deer hunting again. .270 is suppose to have sufficient power if you hit the deer where you are suppose to...then again, I recall all my quick kills have been done with .30 caliber rifle rounds.
I have never used anything other than a .243 which has way less killing power than a .270. The keyword in all of this is the guy shot the deer twice. This either isn't true or he only got shoulder and butt or something.
Is a .270 and a .270 magnum the same thing? I guess I'm asking is there such thing as a .270 cartridge that's not a magnum.
The regular .270 Winchester outperforms the .270 Winchester Short Magnum. The Short magnum has been a huge failure and anytime someone says .270 they are not talking about the magnum.
forgot you might be talking about the .270 Weatherby which is in fact massive overkill for anything 240 pounds and more powerful than the .270 winchester.
I am going to get flamed for this but why do so many guys still hunt? I mean if you lived in Alaska or int he deep woods of Colorado I understand you are hunting for food, etc and I did that. But I know so many guys that have office jobs that load up their diesel F350 and disappear for a weekend and come back with stories of their kills. Man, we have grocery stories. Now if there was some outbreak of deer and they needed to be "pruned" I don't know the right word, I understand that too. I kind of think that HEB is a much easier way to get a good piece of meat.
