I just heard on the radio, that Raptors guard/three point specialist Dee Brown has agreed to sign with Magic for the 10-year vet minimum of $1 million. Its nothing major, but gives further evidence that Orlando may have to dump or unload some of its players (ahem, Outlaw), and could hint at a trade with Houston for the exception?

According to a story I read on ESPN, it looks like Outlaw and Ron Mercer will go to Miami in exchange for PJ Brown.

ahhh Dee Brown. He could have been a good one. Great leaping ability, extrememly quick, played a couple of years with Larry Bird. Did he learn anything when playing with Bird? NO It takes more than jumping and quickness to be a great NBA player. Dee Brown still plays like he did his first year in the NBA. He is a roll player and nothing more. What a waste of talent.

correct me if I'm wrong, but when a player signs for the veterans minimum it does NOT count against the salary cap....

..so unfortunately Dee Brown's signing means nothing to the magic in terms of needing to free up more cap room.... [IMG]

The question and answer for FAQ #13 sounds like it counts against the salary cap.

"13. Exactly what is included when computing total team salaries?
When determining team salaries (for example, to determine whether a team is over the salary cap), the following are included:

Salaries of all active players and players on injured reserve, ............
The amount of any mid-level, $1 million or disabled player exceptions available to the team (see question number 16) "

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since it reads that it would count whether used or not, they might as well use it.
